USC Fires Kevin O'Neill- Let The Rumors Begin

He's supposedly a good defensive coach, right? Bring him here as a volunteer intramural coach, and have our guys form a team. They can use the extra work.

From ESPN:

RAPID FIRE
Getting better: Washington and St. John's

USC should hire: Jamie Dixon (if possible) or Steve Lavin
But if he fares well, the Trojans should at least consider: Interim coach Bob Cantu

Not enjoying this thread regardless o any merit. Just an umcomfortable thought.

I think it was always a bogus rumor to begin with. It was put out there to undermine Lavin's recruiting efforts. I think Lavin will be at SJU for a long time. He's really rolling now.

Keep reading that U$C should "get Jamie Dixon". Is there any reason Jamie would be leaving Pitt? He's averaged 26 wins a season there for a decade, and has them, what, 14-4 so far this year?

Why would he leave - especially for a career-killer job like U$C? (whatever happened to Jim Saia, Henry Bibby, Stan Morrison, Charley Parker. Tim Floyd. George Raveling was only 57 when he was fired there. Never coached again. Rick Majerus lasted 2 whole days. O'Niel was supposedly one of the shining lights of the up and coming coaching fraternity when HE took the job....

Yeah here are few reasons he should leave.

Duke
UNC
Cuse
Louisville

Coach Lav is the best thing to happen to this university basketball team in a LONG time. It would be a devastating blow to lose him. Lav is one of the BEST recruiters in the game. He has proven he can coach with the best of them. He is an unbelievable motivator, and brings hope back to the Johnnies. I see this team just heading upward with him. He needs to be here for a long time.....btw, JT3 had a great quote the otherday. When asked about the new leauge and the Catholic 7, he said that Georgetown will always be Georgetown, that the program will not change. he also said that with the additions of some strong schools ( Butler, Xaiver, etc ) the new conference will be one of the strongest in the NCAAs. All true, and same goes for the Johnnies. Lav NEEDS to stay, no way around it. These players love playing for him and he is perfect for the program! enough said. IN LAV WE TRUST !!!!!!

What makes anyone think USC would hire Lavin at this point? ....

What makes anyone think that? Because as a long-time, long-suffering St. John's/Mets (prior to them, the Indians!)/Jets/Nets fan, I always expect the worst to happen and am amazed when it doesn't.
Aything can happen of course but with hthis

I think you
will be amazed! (Lavin in all likelihood is not going anywhere - for the same reasons that brought hi here will keep himn here - big time basketball history, the lure of the Apple
the chance to have his name among the best ever
his magnetism and love of recruiting and
developing
young talented kids and so forth

all the best

It is cold as hell in NYC today. SoCal must be so tempting right now. Even Mother Nature is conspiring against us. She and the NCAA are trying to destroy us.
