USC Fires Kevin O'Neill- Let The Rumors Begin

I have a feeling Coach and Mrs. Coach not only like NY, but truly love the STJs family, and aren't going anywhere.

When we are a perennial top 20 program, they will be the King and Queen of NYC basketball.

Coach is on the verge of great things here as we move forward to our brand new conference, and I can't imagine him quitting on us before we are truly back. He doesn't seem like the type.

I hope you're right. I'm a fan of Coach Lavin & I think he's done more for SJU than people give him credit for. I also agree that we'll be a top 20 team sooner than people think. I hope USC doesn't make him an offer he won't be able to refu$e.

+2. Besides, regardless of what he could ever do at USC, it'll always be about football and playing 2nd fiddle to UCLA in basketball. He and the wife can own NY! Unless of course she decides she wants to pursue a movie career, then we're screwed :)

With Lawrence on the cusp of commiting -- if that's true, as many suggest it is -- and with Jordan still considering us, I sure would like Lavin, should his name come up, to squash any rumors ASAP. Unless, of course ...

Good point fuchsia. Does anyone have any Broadway connections with producers? We need her in a big time Broadway production ASAP!!!!

My buddy Nucky Thompson has had some success at getting roles for lady friends. ;)

Doubt if Nucky would help ... believe he's a Syracuse grad (which would explain some of his wardrobe choices).

Well,

a) Lavin's a West Coast guy
b) money talks
c) wife would have more opportunities in movies/tv in LA
d) came to SJ in part to coach in best bb conference - new conference won't be, at least not at first
e) competing in conf against UCLA - might want to do it to prove naysayers wrong
f) what are the odds this could affect Jermaine Lawrence's decision
g) is he still a member of this group - forgot his name but surprised I haven't seen a Tim Cluess post by now
h) cross fingers and hope Lavin stays

Maybe it's a good thing we're off to a poor start with a very good chance of finishing in the bottom third of the BE. Don't think Lavin would leave here without having first achieved some real success. If we were to make the NCAAs two years in a row, for example, he could say that his mission -- to rebuild St. John's back to being a national power -- was successful, that he's leaving the program in great shape, going back to his roots, blah, blah, blah. Bottom line: I'm praying he stays ... it would be a devastating blow to the program if he left at the end of this season.

What makes anyone think USC would hire Lavin at this point?

As a st Johns fan I'm happy we have him, but as an objective AD I don't know if he'd be very high on my list right now.

What makes anyone think that? Because as a long-time, long-suffering St. John's/Mets (prior to them, the Indians!)/Jets/Nets fan, I always expect the worst to happen and am amazed when it doesn't.
