He has been labeled a shooter by many announcers so it’s not just on the board.
I dont think he is labeled a shooter necessarily because he is white.
I assumed he was a shooter because he is not quick enough to guard 2s or 3s at this level. Hes not a pg and hes not a big. So what value could he bring outside of being a 3 point sniper?
Caraher burned up the court playing for Houston Baptist. He's still adjusting to the BE. I've seen indications in some of the earlier out of conference games that he can play at a higher level. I'm hopeful he will get better as the season progresses.
David Caraher scored 23 points, grabbed nine rebounds and passed for five assists as Houston Baptist roared back from a 17-point first-half deficit to keep Northwestern State winless in Southland Conference play, 77-70 on Wednesday night.
In OOC games, no one should even be rated, under, over or otherwise.
Julian appears to have good court sense, and appears to be someone who can develop into a well rounded player. It's way too early, but I thought of a kid in the mold of a DJ Kennedy, who can do a little bit of everything in the boxscore. I wouldn't rate him, just that's who I thought of in terms of style.

And as I pointed out on this board when Jim Spanarkel labeled him as such that he was wrong and had not done his homework, and I know Jim personally. Announcers are not exactly replacements for doing your own research and thinking for yourself. You have watched Caraher this year, I assume, does he play like or strike you as a shooter in the context he has been labeled on this board? Cause he sure doesn’t to me.

You just answered your own question, you assumed. And have you watched him play this year or are you still just assuming? He has been a pretty decent role player both on defense and offense and proven to be a contributing rebounder as well.
Based on what I've seen watching all but one of our regular season games (did miss at least half of the UMass game), I'd consider Caraher, Chamagnie & Williams as 3 guys who can be or become decent three point shooters, although I wouldn't consider any of them classic spot up shooters by any means.
Julian is just one conference game into his career. He has the size and the tools to play at this level. The bonus is that we now have a coaching staff that will heavily invest in his development.
Not overrated. 10 & 6 and starting as a freshman is much more than I expected him to contribute. It's possible that we got overly-excited when we saw him on the court and are now disappointed to see he will have some off-games but when we take a step back, he's clearly been a wonderful surprise. He's going to be one of the core guys for whatever this team is moving forward after Figueroa & Heron are gone
I would not say he's overrated. I'd say he's been a pleasant surprise.
Agree. And I would add that he is in process of adapting to the increased speed of the game and talent level.

Agree. And I would add that he is in process of adapting to the increased speed of the game and talent level. But, still doesn’t look overwhelmed or freshmen-like

His brother was 5-6 from behind the arc in pitts last game. DOH!
After a hot start, Champaigne has cooled off tremendously. The 15 foot jumper was falling early in the season but hes been ice cold with it recently.
Id get the Duke of Earlington in there with the starters and bring penny off the bench.
Seriously? You do realize his brother was 5 for his previous 37 from 3 on the season, right? I’m sure Justin will also continue to develop into a good player, but please don’t highlight his 3 point shooting from one game and act like that proves anything. Even with the outburst in his last game, Julian is still shooting it better. And I agree with many on here that Julian has been very good for us and I anticipate he’ll get going again soon.

In that middle ground now - not as good as he started out in the beginning - not as bad as he's been playing recently.
I would say Julian Champagnie has been a pleasant surprise. He is also a true freshman basketball player, trying to adjust to D1 college basketball. Maybe we can all just relax and watch not just him, but some of the other guys develop under a coach who has a pretty good idea what he is doing.
I have no idea why we need to label him anything (overrated!?) but a freshman trying to find his way.
This overrated stuff comes from giddy users who watch high d1 big conference recruits make lunch meat out of weak mid major opponents. When you play a mid major that had a horrible record last year. Everyone looks good in a blowout. Of course as competition stiffens everything becomes a little tougher. Some freshmen will excel even then, others come back to earth, and still others will learn to make adjustments. Its way you don't rste freshmen or any "improved" players at this point.
Julian is the second leading freshmen scorer, rebounder and pick pocket in the Big East. He's a top ten rebounder regardless of class and top 12 in steals. He was our best player against arguably the best team we played against - ASU. He made the all tounament team in a tounament that featured schools from the ACC, PAC 12 and Atlantic 10.
He is one of the best front court freshmen we've had here in our recent years. He has started from game one for good reason.
