UCONN out of 2013 BE tourny?

 Updated UConvict rap sheet: :woohoo:

1996: NCAA strips UConn of three NCAA Tournament wins and orders the return of
$90,970 for Kirk King and Ricky Moore illegally accepting gifts.
1999: Khalid El-Amin arrested on drug charges.
2003: Mike Hayes arrested on drug charges.
2004: Clyde Vaughn assistant basketball coach arrested for patronizing a
Prostitute.
2005: Jim Calhoun and staff shamelessly get involved with Doug Wiggins after he had already committed to St. Johns.
2005: AJ Price and Marcus Williams arrested on larceny charges.
-Justice UConn style. Same case, AJ Price suspended for entire 2005-2006 (he was expendable) season but All American Marcus Williams for just one semester (not so much).
March, 2005: Antionio Kellogg arrested on drug charges.
April, 2005: Antonio Kellogg arrested for criminal intent to assault a police
officer
2006: UConn coaches called recruit Nate Miles 27 times in December. NCAA rules
allow one call per month at most to recruits.
2008: Jerome Dyson and Doug Wiggins fail random drug testing.
2008: Nate Miles expelled for violating a restraining order.
2009: Yahoo Sports reports ex UConn student turned agent Josh Nochimson provided
recruit Nate Miles transportation, lodging and meals in violation of NCAA rules.
2010: Kemba Walker announces he finished reading his first book while at UConn.
2010: UConn spends $338,000 on lawyers in relation to the NCAA probe.
2011: Jamal Coombs-McDaniel arrested on UConn campus for drug possession.
2011: NCAA informs UConn of eight recruiting violations in the Nate Miles case.
Nate Miles is currently living in poverty in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio.
2011: NCAA puts UConn on notice and is sanctioned for subpar performance on the
NCAA APR (academic performance report).
2011: Jim Calhoun is given a suspension from three Big East Games for knowingly
allowing a booster and certified NBA agent to participate in the recruitment of
Nate Miles and to make prohibited financial contributions. UConn is given a
reduction in scholarships over three years as well as recruiting restrictions.
2011: UConn Administration approves the volunteering (i.e.taking) of an existing
scholarship from student athlete Michael Bradley to allow a most likely “one and done” future NBA player Andre Drummond to be eligible to play.
2011: UConn currently graduates 25% of its men’s basketball players. By
comparison, Notre Dame is at 90%, Villanova at 90%, North Carolina @ 88%, Duke
at 83%. The UConn women’s basketball team graduates 92%.
2011: NCAA investigating the eligibility of freshman Ryan Boatright. Suspended six games for receiving improper benefits.
2012: UConn will be prohibited from the 2012-2013 NCAA Tournament due to APR rating.
2012: Ryan Boatright forced to sit again as NCAA opens investigation.
2012: NCAA finds Ryan Boatright received over $8,000 in illegal benefits. He is required to pay back $4,500. Unbelievably, the NCAA allows him to pay showing crime does pay, at least at UConn.
2012: The Big East bans UConn from the 2013 Big East Tournament.

Irregardless of this long list of Uconn transgressions, I still know, and like, a whole bunch of Uconn fans, who are my friends and who are great guys, and who like/root for SJU except when they play their school. Every time SJU celebrates a victory there are glasses clinking in Glatsonbury, West Hartford and other Conn. towns for the Johnnies!

And I would match Emeka Okafor against any BE player in terms of talent, intelligence and integrity. They have had many others. They have also had their share of bad eggs, and the real Uconn fan acknowledges that!, but so have we, and all of our compatriots in the BE. Plus, we could list our transgressions and it wouldn't look much different.

That and i watched a show with two ex-BE players on t.v. recently, and our representative, Tarik Turner came off very nicely, but the Uconn representative, Donnie Marshall, came off even better, Uconn is not filled with thugs and bad apples, any more or less than any other school. Donnie Marshall made it pretty clear that as harsh and demanding as JC is, the majority of his players respect him and keep involved with the program because of him.

Why would you want one of the premier programs in your conference to get dissed. It is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

So the fact that I did not realize that SDSU and Boise were "football only" members, diminishes my point-of-view, in what way??? This b.s. of "football only" versus "all sports" is non sense anyway!

Lastly, the fact that no one can figure out who is in the friggin' BE conference from year-to-year, and for what sports, kinda, sorta, makes my whole point: Don't rejoice in ill falling on Uconn, a founding member of the BE and a winner of 3 National Crowns, from our conference, it is counterproductive.

If we spend our whole time hating Uconn, what good does it do us?

WWLD?

Not waste his time hating on Uconn.

Yea and Yankee fans and Red Sox fans sing Kumbaya too.

It's amazing that this arrogant jerk, Jim Calhoun, gets to coach UCONN after a "rap sheet" like that. Thanks for posting by the way.... And the other thing few people mention in public is that he is unversally disliked around the conference.

Any chance Calhoun, Omar that is, opens his recruitement with everything going on? Any rumblings?

I heard rumblings back in mid Feb. But nothing since. And either he was quoted or someone in the know was quoted on ESPN NY High School area blog saying 99.9 percent he's still going.

Hey Brook, this has nothing to do with Conn. being dissed or being hated by anyone here. They have cheated and missed qualifying for the tourny because they were sloppy with the players academics. Why should they be exempt from rules that others must follow. Jim can right the ship if he wants, using the same leadership skills used to win national championships. He would have looked better accepting the verdict and moving on rather then pissin and moanin.

If it were SJU in this predicament, they'd throw the book at us. NCAA needs to enforce their policies, not overturn them for schools like Uconn. Calhoun has been a scoundrel, but that is not the point here. He's a fantastic coach but his team hasnt performed to standards that are in the books. Shouldnt be able to overrule this type of verdict. I'm waiting to see what happens. Certainly Uconn is one of our brethren, but not by choice. They'd drop us like a hot potato if they could leave for the ACC or wherever. Great coach, great program, but long overdue for some sort of intervention and to tell the truth, this is not nearly as bad as could be considering all that has transpired. NCAA must hold up to the policies they set though.

You certainly make some good points about the state of the Big East today. No argument there.

But you lose credibility when you imply. and yes, you didn't say it outright, but your implication is that UCONN should be treated with respect even though they have violated NCAA rules. As has been said so much better than I could have said, they need to be held accountable just like any other program.

And as far as UCONN fans rooting for St. John's when not playing against us? I live in CT and I have never, EVER seen or heard that from any of my many UCONN friends and acquaintances. And as far as UCONN fans being "great guys" you should ride back home with me on a Metro North train after a UCONN - ST. John's game at the Garden. Especially one, like last year, in which UCONN lost. So many of your "great guys" are drunk, rowdy and so damn annoying.

Uconn's appeal was officially rejected today. No post-season for thhe Huskies in 2012. Not even Big East post-season.

Well, how about this thread regarding Calhoun's successor ?

I've been reading some interesting things about uconn and the coaching. I think it's common knowledge that Kevin Ollie might be the next coach "coach-in-waiting". However, the name Shaka Smart came up and rumor was he turned down Illinois to see what happened at uconn. Kevin Ollie was a great player and has all the qualities you want in a potential coach but has yet to prove he can be a GREAT coach. However, Smart has proved himself already and I love Ollie but if Uconn could get Shaka Smart if/when Calhoun retires, I think they have to go after him.

Personally I'd rather see Calhoun coach until he's 100 but with next year being up in the air, I can't blame him for calling it quits with a wasted season with no tourney options.

no way. He has a bad day and then can't coach for a few months? he would struggle with a REAL job and I can't believe he is doing what he is doing at St.Johns. Either coach or move on....

That's why their fans will never be confused with those who can walk and chew gum at the same time.
