Whatever you think of Trump, without him present in China and without his intervention whereby China did not want to sidetrack any improvements in relations and substantive trade discussions, these guys could have seen long and hard prison sentences.

Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!

While I agree that he gets too worked up inconsequntial issues, he is right. He intervened and kids got out. Father should just shut his mouth and thank God his kid came home. Idiot

The UC system president had more to do with the release than the US president. All parties involved are simply content to let him keep thinking his role was yuge, though.
