UCL Quarters

Inter should be giving Sommer a bonus after that match but Yamal is something else. I hope he can maintain this throughout his career but to see a player his age with the kind of poise, pace, boot and dribbling skill he has is absolutely insane. Especially at the highest level of levels already. Sommer flat out robbed him twice and that’s not including the crosses and the fact Barca’s offense primarily flows through his right side of the pitch. They know it’s coming and he still makes it work anyway, that’s boss shit right there.

That match was up there with Spurs/Ajax, Pool/Barca and Real/Chelsea. I could do without the theatrics and whining but that was football at its finest and most dramatic.
Inter and Barca put on the most entertaining back to back games that I have ever seen. Inter, while no poverty stricken club, does not have the resources of the other semifinalists.

Mildly rooting for Inter for a couple of reasons. One as a serie A fan growing up, I like to see it do well.

But more importantly, as a Napoli fan
(because of my immigrant parents), Inter advancing continues to put more focus for them in winning Champions League as opposed to the Serie A title.

Bizarre if they win it post Messi-Nyemar-Mbappe-Ibra-di Maria-Canavani (I'm forgetting a few surely?). They were the better team again today, although Donnarumma came up big and what if Saka had not missed that open goal? Final will be close. My guess is Inter but I wouldn't bet on it.

Arsenal had 2 if not 3 golden opportunities they missed in the first 20 minutes. Any one of them would have taken the air out of the building.

Once they weren't converted I had a bad feeling and a few minutes later PSG struck.

Lunatic Arsenal fans will scream for Arteta's head. That's ridiculous. But that said I'm concerned about the dynamic between him and Berta and the chess pieces on the board not matching his style.

It certainly helps that PSG probably has the best goalkeeper in the world (at worst second) who has yet to even enter his prime. Donnarumma makes up for many deficiencies in other areas.

There are a couple of side stories as well.
Gigi was given is first call up to the Milan senior team at 16, by its coach at the time, Inzaghi, who now coaches Inter.

Another is, playing for Milan and also being a fan growing up, he must have a certain level of sports hate for Inter.

Finally, he wants to stick it in the French press’s ass one more time. He is their punching bag. Part of it is cultural, as Italians and French do not always see eye to eye. But moreso he is a product of his own greatness. Any mistake is magnified, especially when this is not one of the great PSG teams.

Speaking as a Spurs fan, please sack Arteta! The Donnarumma save was immense so early in the match and Saka’s miss was gigantic because there was so much time left. I honestly think he was shocked the ball got through Donnarumma because he had grabbed almost everything else.

I’m sure most of the free world rooting for Bodo/Glimt later but COYS. Be the most ironic season making it to a European Cup final in this year of all years.

If he doesn’t make that spectacular save against Odegaard and, even worse, comes off due to a hand/shoulder injury, PSG would have been done.

I really enjoyed both world class quality matches. Only got into soccer about 20 years ago when my daughter was playing and was very good. Enjoy watching the premiere league without a dog in the fight.

Guinness, if I'm not mistaken, you are a Tottenham fan ? One of my favorite teams to watch was the Gareth Bale teams with (Berbitov) ? before he left !

The Robbie Keane/Berba/Darren Bent/Defoe Spurs was when I started seriously following Spurs myself. Being Irish (and German), took a liking to Keano from the 2002 WC and the rest is history. My favorite player since I’ve been around is Ledley King, I wear 26 in my men’s league but how can you not love Bale? Prime Bale was the best I’ve had the luxury of watching week in-week out.
