Two-Year series wishlist

I think Texas is going to have a lot of buzz, so I'd say them.

But I'd like to see a team from each of the major conferences every year, plus Gonzaga.

So something like Texas, Purdue, Stanford, Notre Dame, Florida, Gonzaga, and the rest filled with cupcakes from the area.

I really enjoyed the Duke games at MSG, so if we can play them again that would be great.

Syracuse is an old time time rivalry that I would like to see renewed, but only if they agree to play us at Carnasecca because screw them (which probably wouldn't happen).

Some other candidates that could be interesting:

-Arkansas (for obvious reasons)
-Rutgers
-Nebraska (Ratt A)
-Hofstra
-Iona
-Hawaii (Great recruiting tool)
-UCLA
-USC

If you had noted Texas A&M, instead of Texas that would have been a great play on the word "buzz"...lol.

I'd love to see home and away series with any of:

Duke, Gonzaga, Rutgers, either Arkansas or Alabama, West Virginia, St. Joe's and (for selfish reasons) Davidson.

Syracuse would NEVER agree to play us at CA, and at MSG they get a bigger crowd, so not them unless it is a neutral site.

Duke is up there for me, because of some of those times when we really stepped it up, even in that Ronnie-led team that lost in OT (what a game)!

Davidson is a nice team to play and with McKillop always well-coached, and can be formidable, same for Huggins and the Mountaineers.

Gonzaga being a smallish Catholic school (new BE similarities) makes a certain amount of sense, except for their distance and them having no NYC connections to speak of.

How about schools like Georgia Tech, etc., places that have beaten out SJU for the NYC talent over the years.

Last, I wouldn't mind ND, it is very enjoyable when a real "blue collar" school like St. John's goes up against the smarmy, entitled, Catholic "Ivy"! I can hear the ND fans at the Garden now, "YOUR FATHERS WORKS FOR OUR FATHERS" (tongue planted somewhat in cheek). Anecdotally, I heard that the Duke student section used to chant that to certain of their rival schools.
(And actually any kid from the NYC area who can get into ND should go there, the connections they can make there are invaluable).

the rose hillers. need to build up local schools/rivalries.
why travel thousands of miles. both games in the garden.

Any of, UCLA, Arizona, Gonzaga, Oregon, North Carolina, Duke.

Like it or not these are all high profile schools. Also, gives us some profile in the West and South. If you ever want to recruit Nationally You need to play the programs with a National following.

Beating any one of these teams gets you attention. Beating Fordham and Iona and any number of locals is nice and I’m not against playing them but, be honest, ask a college hoops fan outside of NY who those teams are they would laugh and say “you should beat them”.

It is all about exposure so UNC, Kansas and Kentucky for sure. Texas and Oregon would be nice places to play too. No Neutral site go on the road to tough places at least twice a year.

I’d like to see a home and series with
Michigan State, UCLA, Duke, Louisville, Kansas and West Virginia

A game against WVU would probably be the most entertaining game of the year. Both teams would need a week off after to recover.

UCLA
USC
Loyola Marymount
Pepperdine
CSU Northridge
Long Beach State
CSU Fullerton
Cal Poly

Back in the Day , it wasn’t difficult to get the Indiana’s , UNC, UCLA, Louisville ,,Duke , Kansas to play us regularly .  That has changed . I think this coming season will have a lot of impact on the quality of OOC teams we can schedule on a home and home basis . You have to get into Top 25 or higher and first tier of BE to get the profile these other Programs value . Gonzaga would be great in the Garden or Belmont but , right now they are miles ahead of us in terms of getting talent . For them to make a Coast to Coast trip to play us has to be of Value to them . Either $$$ wise or just playing in NY .   Remember it wasn’t that many years ago that Gonzaga wasn’t even mentioned as a Elite team . The Few Era has changed all that .

Too far away.  And too Orange County.  /media/kunena/emoticons/w00t.png

PS I note that in a couple years my daughter's alma mater UCSD will be full member of the Big West basketball conference.  I'll travel down there.  /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

I am adamant that the founding (or long standing) Big East schools that left for greener ($$) pastures lost their identity in doing so.   As was mentioned, the entire league was connected by a tank of gas.   BC is almost a non entity in ACC competition.   Syracuse may become that once Boeheim retires or dies (whichever comes first).

BC - SJU were wars, two Catholic schools whose fan base disliked but respected each other competitively (to a degree).  Whether they were competing for top of league or not, the games meant something.   Same with Syracuse, same with UConn.   Of course, we'd all like to punish them for leaving and not help their recruiting one bit, but those are games you circle on the calendar.

I like the idea of away games you can drive to, or those that a flight is to an appealing destination (Charleston over Dayton for example)

Would like to see Dayton join the Big East at some point. Agree with Beast it would be nice to get BC back on the schedule.
