Got an alert today from Athletic that NBC and TNT will be in the mix along with Fox as part of new TV deal which I assume means it's close to being announced. They did say that CBS component was still under discussion. They did allude to more games on streaming on Peacock and Max (TNT).

Just a summary for those without NYT subscriptions. More details here.

Very interesting. I heard from someone who would know that Fox didn't want women's basketball or the other BE sports, so I wonder how much of those sports are now going to Peacock/HBO Max.

Big TBD on how this is for us, basically based on:
$$$
How many games actually on: Fox, CBS, NBC, and TNT

But I'm intrigued...

For those with Amex platinum you can use your $20 monthly media entertainment credit toward peacock channel now that we got screwed and can’t use it towards Sirius satellite anymore

I get hedging to maximize return on something FOX couldn’t match over long term. Have to guarantee league profits in this scary new world.

Just hope it doesn’t dilute the audience reach and identity of the conference. FOX has been the face of the league since realignment, it would be unfortunate to see it diminished.

Let TNT/NBC have the traditional FS2/CBSS games and annoyingly have to feature a few marquee games on streaming. Make them put BE on their National channels atleast 2-3X combined in return to further maximize audience reach and feature the league.

I can see BET Wednesday and probably first Thursday session given to them over the long term.

This should be exciting news, good foresight bc in a couple of years toggling between streaming services will be just as easy as pressing channel +|-.

The other interesting question is inventory. Is the expectation with the networks that we add schools to fill up the "inventory" needs?

So does this mean the days of watching games on Fox Sports Network, which is part of most cable subscriptions are over and we will have to pay extra to watch many? That’s just great for those of us on fixed retirement incomes. If so, just and nail in the college sports coffin.

My son keeps telling me only Boomers have cable anymore; suspect we will see more and more sporting events available only through streaming over next few years.

I'm lucky because I use my boomer parents' cable subscription info to log into the apps for these games, lol.

I'm not particularly happy to have to likely get Peacock, but this is definitely inevitable. If there's a significant uptick in $ for the schools + more national exposure on Fox, NBC, and TNT, that's a pretty big W. Especially considering a lot of us really saw the BE in an existential crisis (maybe it still is after the deal, we'll see)

No. Fox is still the lead network, so many games will still be on their service. But paying for cable is the still foolish. I, a boomer by definition, though a Gen-Xer by all other measures, was able to save $130 a month by switching to Youtube TV, got all the channels I wanted and can put that $130 to paying for my various subscriptions and still have a fair bit of money in my pocket.

Big East BB is a better watch then most "Power 5" Conferences. And don't think for a second that the possibility of Pitino getting us (and the NY Market) to national prominence isn't a part of these deals
