Tournament to expand likely

Play-in games got us a ticket to the dance before.

Another way to look at play-in games is that it begins the Tourny and 60 teams get byes.
Here's the uncomfortable truth about the play in games, if you lose in those, it never even feels like you were in the tournament.

You don't get to be a part of the best two sports days of the year IMO (first round - Thurs and Fri)

You also don't even get to pick your own team when you fill out your bracket. For example, if we are in the play in game this year against say Wake Forest, on the bracket you fill out, it just says WF/SJU. You don't even get your own spot in the bracket which means no one is going to pick you to go far, if they don't even know who they're picking! Not until Tuesday/Wednesday night will it be changed, and the overwhelming majority of people have already filled out their bracket by then. This may sound like a small complaint but it is undoubtedly true, going to Dayton is LAME

I've always felt that the number of tournament teams should be consistent, percentage wise, with the number of team in Division 1 (obviously, you can't do that every year, but every time the TV contract comes up, that should be looked at, IMO). What that percentage should be though, is anyone's guess.

In terms of hard numbers? I would have no problem with going to 96 teams (automatic buds to regular season conference champs, as well as tournament champs), and getting rid of the NIT.

The more college basketball expands the better it is for non-football and small football schools. A 96 team tournament would bring in much more money.

A college bowl team plays over 80% of an NFL regular season schedule while a college basketball national champion doesn’t even play 50% of a regular season NBA schedule. How can basketball compete with that? Add 10 games to the schedule and basketball can close the gap.

There should be a massive 128-team preseason tournament as well.

Jack, I agree with you completely, and when we are part of it, the emotions run high.

Win and advance, lose and go home.

Not like Professional sports (almost not) because many are series. (If we had series's, Nova would never have won in '85)

To me opening Round Round Days 1 and 2 with potential upsets, buzzer beaters, heart breaking losses and exhilarating wins, is better than the Super Bowl, better than the World Cup, World Series, better than the Stanley Cup and whatever they call the NBA Championship.

UMBC over Virginia, BABY!, that's what I SAY.

Give me the Big Dance Opening Round and a good bar stool with lots of Television sets.

And listen, I will of course take a first four appearance. We are St. John's we gotta try to get in any way we can 😂

But yea, if you lose that first four game, man is it a buzz kill. Shoved off on TruTV on a tuesday night, no one ever even remembers you were in the dance.

Before the NCAA Tournament who even knew what TruTV was?

But, if you win your Play-In game (and forgetting about names in Brackets), and you get past the first weekend, who cares that you "didn't belong", one can always hope.

Maybe all these idiots who thought that going to 20-team conferences was a good idea should suffer a bit instead of 1) trying to expand March Madness, or 2) breaking away for their own tourney that would never in a million years replicate the magic of the current product.

Moose getting up at 5:30 AM just to ruin my day.

I mean, I don't even like the play-in games, should have just left it at 64. Having said that, 72 is not a disaster. But I absolutely believe they are on the road to like 104 no matter what they say - which is ridiculous.
I am up at 5am to ruin my day :)
