Tiny Wants St. John's Job / Daily News

I think that's what most believe. Even if Tiny or Slice came on board STJ isn't going to start having Calipari/KU type classes, lack the resources, petroleum or financial. Cal can get away without coaching because he's fielding a borderline NBA team every year. No one else really is, though Kansas and UNC come close often.

 Long time no post. B)
If you can find my long ago post from Norn's first year when there was a lot of talk about the possibility of hiring either Ron Naclario (Cardozo) or Moe Hicks (Rice HS)- my comments here about Dwayne (Tiny )Morton (Lincoln) will be similar. ALL three of them had (Moe) -have (Ron & Tiny) stellar high school coaching records. All three know how to "find" players (wink-wink)- all three can organize/coach/prepare/practice their teams to compete & win at the highest level.. (City & State titles) ALL three had/have the respect from the high school player community.

My point/question then & now was in achieving all of their successes in competing yearly vs the best coaches from the CHSAA/PSAL & OTHER area high school leagues did they maintain positive relations with these rival coaches? OR was the competition in "finding players" so competitive those realtionships were rarely (if at all) positive .WOULD THE WELCOME MAT be there when the recent HS coach added to the staff came recruiting? I DON'T THINK SO!
Case in point- Gary DeCeasre once he left St. Raymond HS for the college ranks (now coaching HS in Chicago )was never able to deliever CHSAA or PSAL kids to any of the schools (Richmond & DePaul) other then his own St. Ray's PG (name escapes me to Richmond) Add to this, having to win the favor of coaches in the AAU/TRAVEL Team community & you have a whole other set of variables to deal with.

Coach Naclario let his guys play with anyone, THEN Rice coach Hicks had most of his kids aligned with Riverside & then Metro Hawks with few independent minded kids playing else where. Coach Morton has his OWN travel team (Jiuce All-Stars) made up of Lincoln players + PSAL star players looking for a good travel/exposure opportunity. Coach Morton has played perhaps the best NATIONAL schedule during his 14 years at Lincoln & has most likely developed relationships with top high school coaches all over the country not influenced by the "local drama". So that's a positive thing to consider when weighing his hire by any coach.

Now we know coach Hicks has been a member of the Redstorm staff going into his 3rd year & if he's bumped upwards on the staff totem pole he may be involved in recruiting. Coach Hicks may find the welcome mat out there because he wasn't involved with summer ball & his low key (in my eyes he never rubbed "IT" in HS rivals mugs) personality + time heals old wounds. (+ look how many rival coaches retired) will allow him to do well recruiting.

Just my two cents of yaddee yadda on this topic. As in all things hoops-time will tell. PS catch my Student-Athlete presentation on WNYC Chan 25 -City Hardwood series or on YOUTube- search for Rich Kosik PSAL Seminar. ENJOY!

Along with Coach Lavin's other proven skills I guess he needs to politely handle situation like this. It would be interesting to wonder what Coach is really thinking. :(

Lavin needs all the stars from ny he can get.

Based on?

Based on losing the great Ny point guards to Uconn/pitt/Scuse
IAM sick of them picking our pocket

So, you wanna hire him, in order to get great NY point guards, huh?

What great NY point guards have Pitt gotten lately? What great NY point guards have 'Cuse gotten lately? What great NY point guards have UConn lately?

Besides, what happened with the previous coaching staff's doesn't have any bearing with the current the staff.

Furthermore, the last time there were multiple great pgs in one class we ended up with Omar.
Recruiting is definately not our problem with this staff.
