Time To Stop The Insanity

listen we all think we know as much or more than lavin and staff but the bottome line is, WE really
are not as versed as he or his staff!! there is now way that lavin doesnt see the problemes that this team
has, hopefully they get fixed and quick!!!

I beg to differ as I keep seeing him run Phil Greene out there and into the ground.

You're talking about the Phil Greene that played 16 mins to Branch's 29 on Saturday? He's had the nagging hip since October so I can't see how that'st the only reason.

Congrats Saturday was the first game.

Just saying he's adjusting. Since it's only been three games. Moose of three weeks ago would say something about easing him into the rotation.. And the eye issue didn't help either.

If the debate here is Branch vs Greene at the point, I think it's a coin flip. Branch does some nice things. He's smooth, he throws some nice passes, he has a neat drive into the lane. OTOH he is slow on defense and he throws some chucklehead passes trying to hit a 5-run home run. Greene is not a pure PG, but he seems to take better care of the ball and he is a much better defender.

Perhaps the better idea would be to start Branch at the point and Greene at the 2, and yes that means Harrison on the bench. I suspect you would see a lot more ball movement and unselfish play and that you might get more than enough points out of a team effort than you would lose by reducing the time of the Harrison Show.

Agree with the first paragraph though Branch seemed to be playing much better D at least at times on Saturday. That said I personally prefer a PG that's trying to figure out ways for his team to score vs. PG's who are trying to figure out ways for his team not to turn the ball over.

Disagree with the 2nd unless you're going to start 3 guards. There's just not enough scoring options.

i keep saying but brick by brick!!! our program is moving in the right direction despite our growing pains!!
keep the faith guys i know its hard but we will all be praising this PROGRAM in the not so distant future!!!

Is Darrick Wood coming to save the day?

Or... Carlos Galan......or Jevon Thomas or any other non-qualifier Lavin offered a scholarship to!
Our current group is not sweet 16 material next year nor are we recruiting (and signing) future sweet 16 material.
I hope we sign Lawrence but other than him and Whitehead ( a Syracuse lean), where are our future stars coming from?
Certainly no where near top half of the "old" Big East but maybe, just maybe, that of the new C7 which may become dominated by Gtown, Marquette, Butler and Xavier.

Why not Branch, Greene and Harrison together at the same time?

because I would start overlap, Sampson and Garrett ahead of Harrison. at this point I think he is a net negative. And yes I know he scores 20 a game. I think you would make that 20 up by getting more out of everyone else on the roster, and you would have a better and more flexible team that would play like a team.

I did agree with LMF's post in the other thread. As for not starting Harrison that's where my agreement ends. But don't worry. I just wait for Harrison to leave and we can go from 57 pts to 37. Should be tons of fun! (Smiley x8)

I'm not talking about the play on the court, but the banter on the board. The team stunk up the joint against Georgetown, and blew about 4 games they had a chance to win. They will be an abomination a few more times this season, and maybe next as well. We are all frustrated, which leads to venting. I fully expect posts calling for Lavin's resignation to star popping up if, I mean when, the losing continues. Yes, this is one ugly team to watch.

What is insane are posters giving up on the program. Claiming they will never watch this bunch of over hyped, under performing recruits again. Promising to throw their season tickets in the East River. First off, I don't believe any of it. But, if it is true, where is your loyalty to the program? How many of us sat in Shea Stadium from 1964 through 1966, rooting for Ron Hunt to stick his shoulder out just a little to yet again be hit by a pitch. I know I did. Then Seaver came in 1967 I believe, and Koosman in 1968, and suddenly things were looking up. It sure made 1969 feel even more special, knowing we were there for the hard times, too. How many of us froze our behinds off when the Jets moved into Shea, watching more ineptness. I sat through one December game and ordered a hot chocolate. The temp was about 8 degrees, with the swirling winds at Shea bringing the wind chill well below zero. The fans passed the hot chocolate down the aisle, seat to seat. I was at the end of the aisle. When I got the hot chocolate, it was as cold as a chocolate shake. I think Namath got picked off five times that game. But did I say I am throwing away my season tickets? Well no, because I didn't have season tickets. But if I did, I would have been at the next home game, but this time with a thermos full of hot chocolate. It was nice to stick with the team through the 1968-69 season, wasn't it?

The point is, you are either a fan or not. If the product sucks, you root like crazy and hope for better next year. Yes, you can bitch and moan, because that's what fans do. And you hold onto your season tickets, or regret it when Coach Lavin gets that one player who turns it all around. It will happen, and it could be a year or two away.

Very interesting that you call complaining about losing insanity when I see its actually insane to NOT complain & accept the same nonsense for not winning.
Why are you comparing rooting for the 1960s mets & jets (2 current lousy owned losers) 2 pro teams to a college team of students? They were paid to play
plus where is anyone asking for Lavin to resign?
insanity is paying to see wilponzis loser mets or Woodys loser jets today
Namath was a ncca winner at bama under the great bear bryant a big star that sold out shea w the best attendence in the AFL joe willie could throw fb like a cannon ag. the shea wind to maynard I loved those real NY jets with a very underated defense in 1968. Its why IAM a Jets Fan today & suffering
the mets had the great gil hodges who knew baseball like a preacher knows the bible He was a Loved & respected
player & man in nycity people trusted him w building a winner which he did
The fact is coming off a rutgers loss the johnnys played like they were on prosac very uninspired thats the coaches fault no more excuses Lavin needs to get this team to practice better & play harder
I say Never SURRENDER to Losing & only pay for whats worth seeing thats a smart fan whos loyal to his hard earned best friend the $$$ in his pocket not in Harringtons deskdraw

That's funny, I thought I said that venting and complaining was part of being a fan, while stating that giving up on the program was insanity. Especially 16 games into the second season of Lavin's recruits. Which coincided with Norm leaving the cupboard bare. I only went to two Met games this year. Both were during heat waves, with one being a day game. If it wasn't for a Vanilla shake at Shake Shack, I pretty sure I would have passed out. Still, I had a ball. And they won both games. Luckily, the Cubs couldn't take the heat, either, and phoned it in, much like our performance against Georgetown. I had a friend in Miami that had Heat season tickets from the first season. Ran into him after Lebron signed, and told him he could sell his playoff seats and recoup his investment. He told me he gave up his tickets the year before.

The point is the over reaction not to the performance so far, but to the state of the program. It's may not be dandy, but it's fine all things considered. Sure programs have turned it around faster. Baylor, maybe a few others. Coach Lavin is doing pretty good. Remember the vitriol about Norm's big recruiting class? They looked a lot more inept than these guys, with much less upside. Hardy was added to the mix, and they had a real nice senior year together. Yes, sometime this team looks to be playing a different sport than the opposition. They make simple tasks like foul shooting seem like flying a rocket to the moon. But tossing season tickets? Saying I had enough? Some people are just too soft. And yes, I was a long time Mets fan, so I guess I can handle the abuse.

Now that's making a statement and makes sense. There is no statement to make now. The school (with apparent help) paid big time bucks for a first rate coaching staff. Just too many brick layers at this point. That will change.
