Tim Cluess Sidelined With Health Issue

Find it more than a bit unsettling that the only reference to his health issue was the school saying he was "under the weather." He's entitled to his privacy, of course, but somehow things seem to be more serious than being under the weather. Hoping he overcomes whatever he's dealing with and his life gets back to normal.

I hope that Tim does not fall under the same dark cloud that has followed various members of the Cluess family these many years. Great family, keep them in your prayers.
 
Tim is an outstanding coach, and an even better person.

He once told me that he absolutely loves coaching kids at any level. I once was chatting with him casually at a little league baseball practice, where his son and mine were teammates one season. I was hardly paying attention to practice, but he had one eye on the field. Although the first practice of the season, just by watching he knew every kid's name and called out encouragement to many of them as they ran off the field. Totally direct, and totally classy guy, and wish him a speedy recovery.
 
I wasn’t aware of this. I wish him a speedy recovery. I admire the program he has developed at Iona and the chance to come home that he has given to countless players.
 
I've always been a big fan and have heard nothing but great things about him as a person. I hope he's healthy back on the sidelines in very short order.
 
Prayers to entire Cluess family. I remember Tim as a pre teen attending games with his family at Alumni Hall to watch older brother Greg. Greg, Bill Phillips and I were classmates and belonged to the same clubs. The nicest family you could meet. Tim seemingly has been ill for a while and he wisely avoided the circus that is St. John's basketball.

'72, I knew Greg a little when I was at St. John's. He was one of the nicest and funniest guys I remember from those days.

And a key player on Coach Lapchick's final team that won the then-important Holiday Festival and NIT. Solid and smart. That said, hoping Tim will be back coaching before too long.

Agree.

I wanted him as coach, probably more then anyone here. However, we didn't really recover from this under Lavin (who I liked), so it likely would have ended somewhat similarly here (Iona has a much better chance to regain it's status as a MAAC power, when he does come back).
 
Thanks for the update. My prayers are with him and glad to hear it is not life threatening (although it still could be life altering).
 
Tim is one of us more than most here realize. He is a big Redmen fan, had read this site, and this was his dream job. I was a big advocate of him getting the job, but I am also very happy with what we have.

The Cluess family has had far too much by way of heartache. All very good people. Wish him the very best, and hope he is doing what he loves most, coaching, as soon as possible.
 
My son was Iona men’s basketball team manager for two years and I’ve met Tim many times. Alway a class act.
