They better enjoy it now

The rest of the Big East better enjoy beating us now. Because this will be the worst team we see under CMA. Some of these guys have no business being on a BE court but it is what it is. We will be upgraded next year, and then the year after that. Looking forward to it.

I hope you're right, Big Red. It certainly seems like the guys buy into his general message (or at least, the one's who don't, aren't allowed to stick around).

However, we've been sold this before. Remember Mullin saying he was "taking notes" on all the teams that blew us out during his first season? It just gets a little hard to believe, after you hear this message 5 or 6 times, and get fooled every time.

After all of the losing seasons, I think our conference opponents are past the “enjoyment” phase and have developed a “pencil in a W” mentality.

I think/hope you are correct.

I think he lost those notes in his luggage on a trip back to CA.

“Pencil in a W?”

It took everything Xavier had to pull that game out. They looked EXHAUSTED halfway through the second half. At home at least, we aren’t an easy win. Not in the slightest

No question about the home games. I'd go even a little further then that. Other then Villanova, and Georgetown away, we've been in every game with 10 minutes left. Even in the games we've lost by double figures (other then the 2 I mentioned) the other team used late runs, to make the final score more misleading then the game actually was.

However, we need to start getting over the hump somewhat consistently. Instead, we're consistently not getting over the hump, and until that changes, there will be frustration and/or skepticism, justified or not.

Meaning at the start of the season, and certainly more often than not for the last 20 years.

I get it! Many of us are tired of losing and ready to win ASAP. But each individual coach gets a fair opportunity in my book, and aren't graded or perceived like their predecessor.

Of course, I'll speak on any potential red flags and will critique any coach, regardless if it's their first season or 10th season. But what occurred ten to twenty years ago isn't relevant to Mike Anderson.

If we're at this point a season from now, then I may start to get concerned. Until that time comes, then the gnashing of teeth needs to be minimized.

I will make no bold predictions as I felt this way during the early part of the Lavin era and here we are. I do think there is an actual shot at the program turning around under CMA, but the teams above SJU are not going anywhere and it's a lot harder to turn things around then maintain a winning program.

Hoping for the best but fully grounded.

Along these lines I really enjoyed taking out Cooley at home this year. He looked so miserable most of that night, which I find a good look for him.

Xavier really would have been a nice cherry on top of that.

The league is a concern. I was "confident" that next year would be a down year for the league, at least compared to this one. I still think it will, but just not as "down" as I originally thought. Even though the other teams will lose key guys, they appear to be well stocked behind them. They've gotten old, and they've stayed old, and that is what we are going to have to deal with down the road.

I do think we will get better, and significantly so. How significantly, and will it be enough, is the major question.

Xavier is the New York Yankees, and we are their Minnesota Twins. It's frustrating.

As bad as he was, Mullin managed to beat every other Big East team at least once during his tenure, and other then Providence, every other team at least twice.

Xavier seems to have some sort of extra hex, and with 6 guys scoring in double figures for them last night, it does not appear that they will be taking a step back anytime soon.

Xavier, the NY Yankees; I think not. Maybe the Seattle Mariners.

They'e the Yankees only in the fact that they beat us up, like the Yankees do to the Twins.

[/'m going to have to see a significant improvement in shooting and rebounding before I'd feel comfortable making that ststementi]

The rest of the league, besides DePaul, is the dog. We're the fire hydrant. That's the rivalry we're looking at right now. Barring bring back Lavin, I won't get off the Anderson bandwagon. You have to love the effort he gets from his crappy players.

Loving the effort, and not calling for any coaching change. As I said elsewhere, I hope he wins multiple national championships here, but I'll settle for being a consistent NCAA Tournament team, with occasional second weekend runs (I don't think you can ask for more then that).

I am however, seeing things that concern me, and that changes aren't being made to stop it, and a lot of these concerns are consistent with what got him fired from Arkansas, so it's something to look for going forward.

Also, a lot of people (although you weren't one of them newsman), praised the efforts Norm's first team gave, and thought it would turn around. Didn't happen.

A lot of people praised the effort the young team gave when Dunlap coached that one year. Maybe his loss was that big, but he got a job offer we couldn't compete with (plus he hated NYC, by all accounts), and it was obvious that he has a communication problem. Not sure we would have done much different, had he stuck around.

Most people thought that, by year 3, Mullin finally had the team we all wanted. It didn't last.

So, some of us are going to continue to be skeptical, until we start seeing results. There's a very good chance that Anderson will get some of those results, but some of us don't want to get suckered in anymore. We've been burned long enough.

A team that looks like it gives a damn every game has been a season-long welcome sight.

If that's you're standard, more power to you.

Yes, it's better then to watch then a team that doesn't care, but I want wins, lots of them, and soon, like next year!

NCAA Bubble next year, and consistent appearances starting in year 3, shouldn't be too much to ask for, and watching this team, I'm fearing that we are moving further away from that.
