The Transfer Portal (in general)

I know this was being debated in the SJU thread but I put this post here to play nice /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Pretty certain this year is going to be an outlier.  The first year of the free transfer combined with the Covid extra year is making it really crazy.  Kids will see the moving forward the bad that comes of it.  Especially those who react too quickly and leave a school.  Remember its 1 free transfer so hopefully it minimizes those who have done the double or even triple transfer previously.  Just have to roll with it this year.  Don't use this as the complete judgment quite yet.

To add NCAA really screwed themselves with the Covid year.  They should have put a threshold like the old redshirt threshold.  Making up a number if a team didn't play 40% of their games or something you got an extra year.  It was a good idea back in the early fall with uncertainty on how the year would play out but for the vast majority of D1 it went just fine.  The extra year is really pouring gas on the fire.

That sounds reasonable but that woulldn't fly.

The other thing is Covid obviously triggered a lot of this but keep in mind getting rid of the sit year was being seriously debated in Indianapolis before Covid.

Nate Blue player
He was a high school senior in 2014-15. Been around a while, apparently.
As another poster pointed out to me he cannot stay healthy.

I think the idea that one free transfer per student/athlete seemed okay but it has really hurt the sport.  There is entirely too many transfers.  Every time a kid gets yelled at he sulks and transfers.  I wholeheartedly agree that should a coach leave you then have the right for a free transfer without sitting out, any other scenario should mean sitting out a year.  Same with the grad transfers.

We no longer have teams.  We have 12 players vs a team and I am not rooting for the players as much as I was rooting for the team.  I enjoyed watching players get better and playing four years.  I can't stand the in one year out the next way of building a team.  See Moore and Cole.  I no longer enjoy watching games like I used to and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth,  Just a little venting.

Rutgers big man Myles Johnson will graduate and transfer, per his Twitter page. Should be in significant demand. Excellent intangibles.

Got plenty of playing time and is from the west coast so not sure were an option. Would be close to exactly what we need IMO.

Could not agree more that this guy would be a very good fit for us; only problem, aside from convincing him to come, is we'd only have him for 1 year.

He’s only played 3 seasons so think we would have 2 if he wanted it.

How about limiting the number of DI transfers a program can take in a year?

+1000 should never have added the year until they had an opportunity to assess post season

He's very smart and a serious student. He's graduating this spring with an electrical and computer engineering degree. I don't know if we have an academic program to suit his needs

I have watched many Rutgers games this season. Myles is very mobile and a good rebounder and shot blocker. He's not a great offensive player but can run the floor and is very athletic. Myles would be a great fit for our team.

Hope he's interested in staying in the NY metro area!!

Gotta believe a lot of tampering going on. Wahab from GT was developing extremely well. Ewing crowed about him being best man in country in the next year...anything can happen

They didn't want players worrying about staying in and not opting out and then have their season fall apart due to Covid.  This took the uncertainty out of at least that point knowing that you would not loose the year one way or the other.  I have no problem with this.

To add, yes some of the players who would have used their eligibility up this year will transfer (while others will move on to other things and others will stay with their current program) most of the kids in the portal would still have eligibility left without the extra year.

I don't know.  Just the eye test I've seen A LOT of seniors in the portal.  Sure maybe some would have been grad eligible but I didn't dive that deep.  Just eye-balling it seems like a lot.  Especially the names linked with us.

Myles Johnson update -Fwiw - I just read a report from a 247 staff writer on the Rutgers premium site that Myles is likely to go back to California and will probably choose between Stanford, Cal and UCLA.
