The Posts that exited the Portal thread

Oh that was definitely not my intention nor do I think said commitment won’t happen. Just the fact that it doesn’t happen as quick as people want it to shouldn’t ensue the proverbial fan riots and meltdowns that have occurred
Frankly I continue to think the finger wagging at impatient fans is… goofy

Maybe “insiders” should stop alluding to commitments and “reporting” things that end up not happening

Stop tweeting gifs of Rick Pitino and red storm clouds every day if you don’t want fans to get frustrated. It’s really that simple

Morning Dave
I read both of your posts and honestly was quite surprised to read the first. I think you could have directed it more to the fans on Twitter but so be it. I think our fans on this board have been very respectful and even keeled for the most part the last few days. Remember this is a fan board and people get high and they suffer lows. Everyone I have spoken with is elated with the players we have brought in to date , disappointed that some really good representatives of the school have chosen to leave and would like to see Ian and a pg commit. All very logical positions. For the greatest part thé only difficulty has been the fans who cannot remain on topic and thank g d for LMF who has spent countless hours sorting through posts and putting them in the correct thread or à more appropriate off topic thread. Thank you LMF. Also a big thanks to all posters who provide as much info as they can. The majority of us understand that it is fluid and if it does not come to pass there was no evil intent or spinning of false information, rather things just change and crap happens. Thé recruiting info provided by Paultzman and others over many à years is greatly appreciated , it is the reason many of us come to the site daily, ok 20 times à day or more. And if fans become upset and have a meltdown if Captain Jack and others do not come on board , so be it , they are entitled to, this is a fan board , as long as their posts respect forum rules they can say what they want and react with their emotions, it has always been and will continue to be that way.
Most of us are intelligent enough to understand that the portal is 1 of the 2 principal reasons behind our recent success, and that we must accept the good with the bad. Wishing everyone a great day and looking forward to additional commitments.
Great post redmannorth!!

I'm saying this from a objective standpoint + not trying to be overly nice, but I've really thought this board has had pretty good composure the last few weeks. Last year was a mess (myself included), lol. This year? I legitimately think lessons were learned and 95% of the board understands its the long game. Asking and thinking out loud who the PG will be is more than fair since there's only so many that would appear to be up to Rick's standards, and NO ONE knows who it will be.

And, this goes with losing a fan favorite (Sim) and the BE POY. I'd say job well done by people here. The discord has also been fine. It's a younger crowd, so it's a little more dramatic. But most of it is in good fun.

#themegahaul created the expectations of things happening quickly. Then things didn't. Now opposing fans are using it to mock us (which have made me lol. I'd do the same if another BE fanbase did that). #sjubb is a special brand of toxic, and twitter's accessibility to actual people involved is bad. So I agree with Dave on those people specifically. But don't think we all need to be lumped in with those people.

My two cents is the mods do a great job being fair with everything. We all stray a bit going down memory lane, etc, and appreciate it is a pain in the ass to constantly move non related thread posts. I certainly will stay on point as much as I can until I don’t 😇

Re redmannorth’s response, it was spot on. We don’t need to be lectured or have any members taking on a role of “keeper of the flame.” We have a solid group of mods who keep things running very well.

Thx redmannorth

I literally said as much multiple times in my post. This forum simply allows for longer thought processes. That being said, DMs and messages about posts on this site do get shared and discussed. Nothing I said was meant personally to a specific post on this site but more so mindset of some vocal fans.

My post wasn't meant to lecture anyone, nor was it meant to be condescending or in anyway belittling anyone. If people took it that way I apologize. Clearly I didn't do a good job expressing my thoughts, I'll keep them to myself. Apologies to anyone who took it a certain way, not my intent.

I just want to get a few things off here because it's been an interesting week in the SJU world with everyone obviously waiting on news of a certain player transferring. In between players entering the portal, and St. John's getting a commitment from Oziyah Sellers, there's been a lot of people / "fans" saying some really demeaning and disrespectful stuff. Mainly this has been on twitter as many of the faceless feel like they can say whatever they want to whoever they want, but I do wish people would try to use some logic.

This is the wild wild west, it's the transfer portal. Nothing is smooth and easy. And because things don't happen doesn't mean they won't. And worst of all is when people get told certain things, from those that know and share it, and it doesn't come to fruition, to vilify them and say XYZ about them is insane.

A handful of people, myself included have heard the player we're all waiting for was "done" more than a week ago. Obviously something hit a snag. Doesn't mean it's not happening. There have been people close to said player who have said announcements were coming and they haven't. Again I say this is the NIL era, we're talking about gigantic contracts with tons of money, tons of other stuff in these contracts that need to get worked out.

Going back to the major haul thing that everyone got upset about because players didn't commit right on the spot, Sellers ended up committing a few days later. Dillon Mitchell is still in the conversation. Ian Jackson is in the conversation. Lee obviously went to Florida...things will be fine and will work out just not on the fans timeline. I get that it's frustrating, and this Ian Jackson stuff has been, I get it, but big contracts in this NIL era with the portal closing in 26 hours or so makes things take a little longer it seems.

Ultimately if Jackson does commit to St. John's will it really have mattered when it was?

Where is the truth who knows? Will we ever really know? Probably not. Things just don't go that smoothly anymore, and fans turning on each other or getting mad at people who share info seems silly. Again not really on here, more on social media, but I just think people gotta keep in mind this isn't 3 years ago and we're not dealing with cut and dry $100,000 NIL deals anymore. We're talking 7 figures now, with agents, lawyers and tons of other stuff in between. Johnnies will be fine.

Also RIP Howie Schwab, 1 year ago today we lost him. Miss my friend dearly. He would have loved this season that we just witnessed.
+100 twice (one for the entirety of the post and the other for the last paragraph)j

Looks like Ian is playing point guard per Pitino....

"We had big shoes to fill at the point," Pitino said in a press release. "Kadary [Richmond] and Deivon [Smith] were awesome. The ball is now in the hands of our next great point [guard]. Let's go Ian!"
