I just want to get a few things off here because it's been an interesting week in the SJU world with everyone obviously waiting on news of a certain player transferring. In between players entering the portal, and St. John's getting a commitment from Oziyah Sellers, there's been a lot of people / "fans" saying some really demeaning and disrespectful stuff. Mainly this has been on twitter as many of the faceless feel like they can say whatever they want to whoever they want, but I do wish people would try to use some logic.
This is the wild wild west, it's the transfer portal. Nothing is smooth and easy. And because things don't happen doesn't mean they won't. And worst of all is when people get told certain things, from those that know and share it, and it doesn't come to fruition, to vilify them and say XYZ about them is insane.
A handful of people, myself included have heard the player we're all waiting for was "done" more than a week ago. Obviously something hit a snag. Doesn't mean it's not happening. There have been people close to said player who have said announcements were coming and they haven't. Again I say this is the NIL era, we're talking about gigantic contracts with tons of money, tons of other stuff in these contracts that need to get worked out.
Going back to the major haul thing that everyone got upset about because players didn't commit right on the spot, Sellers ended up committing a few days later. Dillon Mitchell is still in the conversation. Ian Jackson is in the conversation. Lee obviously went to Florida...things will be fine and will work out just not on the fans timeline. I get that it's frustrating, and this Ian Jackson stuff has been, I get it, but big contracts in this NIL era with the portal closing in 26 hours or so makes things take a little longer it seems.
Ultimately if Jackson does commit to St. John's will it really have mattered when it was?
Where is the truth who knows? Will we ever really know? Probably not. Things just don't go that smoothly anymore, and fans turning on each other or getting mad at people who share info seems silly. Again not really on here, more on social media, but I just think people gotta keep in mind this isn't 3 years ago and we're not dealing with cut and dry $100,000 NIL deals anymore. We're talking 7 figures now, with agents, lawyers and tons of other stuff in between. Johnnies will be fine.
Also RIP Howie Schwab, 1 year ago today we lost him. Miss my friend dearly. He would have loved this season that we just witnessed.
