The Passing of Crgreen

This is very sad news. I really enjoyed his posts concerning UCLA basketball and Coach Wooden. May he Rest in Peace.

What I really enjoyed about Crgreen's posts in terms of content is his knowledge of Lavin's experience coaching UCLA.

What I respected was his civil demeanor. Unlike some of us, you didn't have to cringe if he responded to your post, even with an opposing view or correcting something inaccurate that you posted.

Redmen.com is a little bit less since his passing because of his passion and knowledge of basketball, and for the way he behaved, which should be a model for all of us.

Well said.

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd love it if Paul could create a subject of Crgreen's posts, which would be a really great thread as a memorial to him.

Excellent idea BoE, I loved reading his insightful comparisons of recruits to former players and also his vast knowledge of Lavins years at UCLA. RIP CR

Terrible news...I remember him posting when he said he had cancer, but had no idea it was that bad. RIP to him and thoughts are with his family.

I also didn't realize how dire his situation was 'til I found out he had passed away. I assumed it was in remission, and he was recovering well.

I just sat at my computer and shook my head for a couple minutes when I found out.

By the way, Beast of the East came up with a good idea, in reference to CR's posts.

Didn't CR post that he had a photograph of himself as a child on John Wooden's lap at a game? When someone consistently posts positively, it uplifts all readers. We may never have met him, but he was highly regarded here. If anyone can find a picture of him in healthier times, I'd love to see it.

I agree, excellent idea BoE.
There was a quote from CR in the thread on JJ that I thought gave some pretty good insight into what must have been an adventurous life.
Baldi asked CR if he ever played ball, this was his response:

"Played HS ball. Have a bad heart that prevented me playing college. Played pickkup balll instead till my knees gave out in my late 50's. Played pickup ball with most of the Bruins of the 50's, 60's and 70s. Played a lOT of pickup ball after I moved to Bloomington Indiana in the mid 70's as I had a cousin on the Hoosiers. Banged bodies with Bird, May, Benson, Wilkerson, Buckner, Abernathy and yes, Steve Green :)

Of course, I was running the local Pizza Hut, so providing slices and beer afterwards helped me get into the games as my knees were gving out by then...."

I also remember him mentioning in a post that years ago he worked in the front office of the ABA for awhile. Marketing/Sports Information (before it had that title) something like that. He partially credited that with some of his obscure knowledge of the "other" league.

Will definitely miss CRGreen. What made his posts stand out was that he posted facts to back up what he was stating, Also when he disagreed with someone else's post, he stated why he disagreed and gave the facts behind it. He was always civil, a true gentleman.
If we really want to pay homage to GRGreen, let's start by being more accepting of each other. I feel bad that he is not going to be here to see what is potentially Lavin's best team. CR please put in a word with the MAN Upstairs for ST. Johns. Peace & Blessings.

Cancer takes another one. It took my dad also. Many good people have lost their battles with that horrible disease. May he rest in peace. At least he is pain free.

I'm sure Paul will come up with something good, but I did some searching in the site and found the last few posts that CR made (use the link below). Some of these are great with all the data he always provided and reinforce the comments that several of us have made today. He'll really be missed.

Very sad news. It almost seems like posters are immune from the harsh realities of life.
You will be missed CR! In just a few years you wove yourself into the very fabric of our online St. John's basketball community.

Well said and there have been times over the years that certain posters drop off the radar and dont post for awhile and I've wondered what happened to them. I'm glad CR had a friend who posted the news on the UCLA board so we could give CR the proper respect that he deserved and I hope somehow his family see this and see how someone who none of us have ever met had become such an important part of our lives in one way or another

If you could Mike, post something on the UCLA board with a link to this thread. Thanks.

I did not have the fortune of knowing CR Green, but based upon the respect that he garnered from all the posters, I am sure he was an exceptional person. May he rest in peace!!!

I am very saddened to hear this. I also thought he was in remission. He had such great knowledge that I know that if I had ever met him in person, we would have sat down and I would have been truly mesmerized by his stories.

Rest in peace friend.
