The off topic thread

I never turned on RJ. You literally don’t have ability to read my posts. I give you credit for the verbose wordage if that’s a term

But demerits for not using proper spacing
My genuine apologies, should not have quoted your post; my statement was motivated by my general disdain for those who turned on Luis, posters certainly, but mostly Pitino, Benching Luis was one thing, stupid as I think it was, but throwing him under the bus several times post game quite another in my eyes. Not being man enough to say honestly why he benched him also bothered me.
Why? Because up to the time out, the only SJU player who had played more minutes was Eijofor by 2 minutes. So up to crunch time, Pitino was going with Luis as he should have. So why the change? The 4 players that Luis might have been in for, Scott, Wilcher, Lefty, and Smith were a combined 7-34, slightly better statistically that Luis 3-17 but it’s not like Pitino went with a hot hand. Further, none of them had remotely the history that Luis had at crunch time.
I might have felt differently had Richmond been available, although I doubt it, we had no chance IMO with Luis on the bench, as the last 5 minutes proved out.
But here’s the rub in my mind; at the 8:07 mark SJU was down 61-53; when Luis was benched with 4:56 left the score was 64-62. So in three minutes, the Johnnie’s had out scored Arkansas 9-3 and guess what, Luis had 5 of those 9; a movie all of us had seen before for sure.
So in my eyes, Pitino kept Luis in the game through all the poor play, and when he MAY have been waking up, when he at least was a key part in making it anyone’s game again, he benched him. Made no sense to me then, none now. So I called it as I saw it, one of the dumbest coaching moves I’ve ever seen.

Now here is the thing. Don't make me like you

Its a very reasonable post and most of us know you know hoops but you come arms swinging every time

Anyway we are good I hope you get good with the mods

Doesn't all RJ talk belong in the "Old Friends" thread? That is for every former player, recruit, or player who ever thought about playing for SJU at one time. And former coaches, athletic directors, team managers, etc.

It's a great spot to talk about basically anything or anyone without a moderator being able to say you are off topic.

Always looking to help!

No but Hardy over Shamorie

I usually agree with most of your posts . But , I say Booooo on Hardy over Ponds .
Hardy had 1 great year . Ponds had 3.

And , Hardy over both , RJ and Ponds has to be a joke .

I realize that wasn’t you but , didn’t want to post Twice .

I liked Hardy immensely that final year but , that’s about all his Resume is .

Blessed are the peacemakers.

Actually you are more interesting when you're not humble. It's more authentically you.

Guys, PLEASE try to stay on topic.

It's very distracting - and quite frankly annoying - when threads like this derail.

Try talking about something like this year's fringe center prospects like when our Robert Werdann was picked in the 2nd round in 1992 despite missing almost all of his senior year.

I've always thought Werdann was going to have a breakout senior year. Which reminds me, who do you think had the better career Werdann or Bill Wennington?

Werdann was from Sunnyside. Anybody ever go to the Butcher Block on Queens Blvd? Man, their marinated chicken kebobs are the best! Light those babies up on the grill during summer.

What's everybody doing for summer? Any traveling? We're going to St. Croix where as you know Johnnies great Glenn Williams is from.

Was anyone else surprised Glenn never had much success in the NBA. I thought his size, shooting ability and athleticism would at least keep him around for awhile.

But the draft is really a crapshoot, isn't it? I think Cooper is less Larry Bird and more Keith Van Horn.

Am I being racist by only making a white-to-white comparison?

Discuss. All of it.
Glen Williams. Like the astronaut.

Ted Williams was John Glen's wingman as a fighter pilot. True story.

Glen Williams taught Tim Duncsn how to play basketball at the Hess refining plant in St. Croix. Untrue story.

Sheesh. Learn to spell. Commented with humility.

Tim Duncan got drafted. 1st round. Glen Williams too. 2nd round
Kevin Williams too. 2nd round
Ted Williams - not drafted
John Glenn - grouchy Senator. Undrafted. Jim Bunning also.

On topic post. Nba draft.

Off topic mostly way more interesting.

Repetitive posts? Most here don't even remember what they post 5 minutes after they post it. Dementia begins in your 40s. True post.

I like every poster I ever met. Can only think of two I know I wouldn't like if I met them. True post.

We should start a thread called "Off topic". If you stay on topic you get threatened with suspension. The most interesting stuff here is off topic. Except everything I post is interesting because I have humidity.
