The new Jeter Documentary

How did we never talk about this. Even though a met fan during that time the early years even I rooted for them I’m curious your favs before because it’s probably close to mine starting with Mariano
1- O'Neill
2 - Rivera
3 - Bernie
4 - Pettitte
5 - Tino
6 - Jeter

If it was about talent only Jeter would be #2 behind Rivera. Don't get me wrong, I'm probably splitting hairs on my preferences but there was always something a little standoff-ish about Jeter that rubbed me the wrong way a little bit.

I hear you. As a Mets fan I thought:
O'Neill always appeared to be a hard nosed man of the people.
Mariano and Bernie were incredibly humble, decent dudes.
Petite was a workhorse who gave it his all on the mound.
Tino - never warmed up to him since I thought Maytingly's career was such a tragedy.
And then there's Jeter who despite his excellence and leadership always seemed wooden, almost robotic to me.

your first 3 are identical to mine for those teams

I believe only Jeter and Mo were the only irreplaceable players post-Mattingly era.

I'm tempted to put Bernie and Posada in that category, too (even though I have my issues with the latter).

Switch hitters with power from both sides of the plate are such a precious commodity, and the Yankees had 2 of them. It makes your entire lineup better, and tougher to pitch too.

The 2009 team had 3, with Posada, Tex, and Swisher.

Great player is correct. Still only my 6th favorite Yankee on those 90's teams.

Cannot say his was my fav yankee during that run but have to respect his great career ( I go back to my fav yank sweet Lou Pinella). .310 career hitter. No question should have left the two spot his last season when he batted .256 ( sorry state of todays baseball .256 is a good average today

who really on this current team could even play on those teams during Jeters time?

Perfect list. Loved O‘Neil. Reminded me of Lou Pinella

That’s how I defined prolific. Only 5 in the history of baseball with more hits.
Why not just say he had the 6th most hits in history. Prolific is a pretty definitive term. Kinda misleading don’t you think ? Not factoring in rbis runs scored ( which he was I think top 10 ) but it’s pretty easy to just say he had the 6th most hits in history to make a certain point

Would the pitcher with the 6th most strikeouts in the mlb be the 6th most prolific pitcher ?

For some reason Met fans have something against the most prolific hitter in NY baseball history. I did not say the greatest hitter, or the greatest run producer. How would you define prolific? Maybe I misused the word. Okay, he was the greatest shortstop in NY baseball history. If he was a Met, he would have been the greatest position player in Met history, by a wide margin.

Have nothing against Jeter. Have more appreciation for him now in retirement. As I mentioned just saying 6th most hits in mlb history is enough to make a point saying the 6th most prolific hitter in mlb history is kinda exaggerating to make one’s point look better. He want the 6th best hitter in mlb history. But he was a great player. But on the Mets I think Piazza had more of an impact for his time here then Jeter ever would have. Jeter was the perfect player for the perfect team. Would i have lived him at SS for us ? Sure. Just think Piazza was more of an impact player for us

Piazza was a terrific hitter, but he was with the Mets only 8 years. Never really followed the Mets closely, but MP put up some terrific numbers.

Any prolific hitter list that doesn't include Ichiro is using wrong definition of prolific.
I agree. One of the best... but if we are counting his stats in Japan, do MLB players get to include their Minot league numbers?
