The ACC/ESPN brand.

SJU was ripped for months by almost all posters for its OOC schedule including myself. Vitale said the same thing Sat. and posters didn't like it.
I think we consider SJU basketball something like our kids that we can criticize them but nobody else better.

Yup. That's always how I've taken it.

I feel the same way about New York City, in general. When people from the outside rip it, I get ticked off, but living here all the time, I have my fair share of complaints.

Anyone catch the play where I think it was Ponds stole the ball and got shoved to the ground by a Duke player and it was called a "tie up" that of course went to Duke? The call on Clark was atrocious and a perfect example of the refs not letting the game happen but rather inserting themselves. There was also that play where about 3 Duke players hand checked Ponds as he was dribbling and then Zion came from behind to steal it and dunk it. Again no call obviously. Duke would've blown us out regardless, but it's nauseating when it's so obviously biased. Duke doesn't need any help. Also thought it was very telling when Zion complained to the refs immediately when Heron got into defensive position placing his arm on him like every other defender does. The ref then came over immediately to warn Heron. The Duke board complained that the ref warned Zion! Can't make it up. Zion knows he's treated with kid gloves.

The reason why schedule was ripped is because of the timing of the Duke game and because of incorrect assumptions as to what our opponents would do.
If we played Duke the third game would anyone have attacked the schedule? Probably not as many.

Who had VCU as a quad1 game as they are now? Who had Princeton beating Arizona St. on the road and beating Penn twice to get to 12-5 and first place in the Ivy? Who had BG winning 20+ and beating #18 Buffalo?

It's not strong and it's not weak. Kind of like our team right now.

Nobody is going to talk positively about us if we lose by 30 points, and besides we all got to experience beating Duke last year. As great as it was beating Duke (followed by Nova), it was primarily super bittersweet as we were already eliminated from the Tournament. We needed to win the BET, which was very unlikely given our #9 seed and how strong the league was. The only thing we were all thinking end of the year was "what if?". It was a really rough feeling.

To the contrary, this year we are positioned well and still have opportunities to prove ourselves on the national stage. That includes regular season games against #10 Marquette and #14 NC Villanova. We have even bigger opportunities with the BET and NCAA Tournament.

We beat #4 Duke and #1 NC Villanova last year and every single person on this board would've traded that for a NCAA Tournament appearance. This year we have a far higher ceiling, so let's suck it up and focus on what matters.

OK, I'll bite. What's NC Villanova?

We have to look at Duke in the rear view mirror. Yes, I had envisioned a grandiose outcome Saturday afternoon and had sent a few pictures of downtrodden pictures of Duke players and coaches (including a great but rare picture of Coach K alongside Wojo with their hands on their heads in a loss several years ago) to a personal email list of SJU followers.

But now Mullin has to get his guys ready for later tonight - a win against Marquette on the road would right our ship on course. Wining would keep the Redmen in third place in the crunched BE. A loss on the other hand would knock them down to eighth place which would be difficult on our eyes.
