Thank you to Lavin and St. John's

You all showed a lot of class and guts playing a true road game at USF. It is harder and harder for a program like USF to get these types of games. For that I have a real respect for your program.

As for the other thread where there were mid-major labels being thrown around and one poster thought Gonzaga was the only real basketball program in the WCC, just a note, USF has defeated Gonzaga three years in a row in San Francisco.

Good luck the rest of the season.

Good luck, but you are still a mid major. We beat Duke twice, Pitt while they were in the top 10, a Cincy sweet 16 team, etc. in the past years. I never said Gonzaga was the only real program. I said they are lightyears ahead of the 2nd place WCC team. No other team in your conference can go deep into the tourney and you will be lucky to get 2 bids out of there. If you want to be a major team, join a major conference and face Cuse, Pitt, L'Ville, Cincy, G'Town, Nova, etc. instead of Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Loyola, Portland, SD, etc. It's a huge jump from having 3 good teams to face in your conference in the WCC as opposed to facing a good or great team every game in the Big East. Would like to see you guys take the cross country trip in our house. Good luck.

By the way not making excuses at all but it's important to note that we were playing without 1 player who scouts say can play for an NBA team now and played for a national team, and 1 player who will be our starting PG. I'd like to replay this game at full strength.

Welp, this is embarrassing.

If my memory is correct, the last three times we played a WCC team - we lost. St. Mary's and Gonzaga beat us two years ago, when we were an NCAA tourney team. I've gone to their post-season tournament the last three years and I think they do things the right way. They play very good ball, draw good crowds and are a class act, in the arena and in the casino. It's a stable conference, with schools that have a lot in common, with the possible exception of BYU. STJ would profit from ending up in a northeast version of the WCC.

The only reason I brought up conference affiliation again is because some posters said "Some mid major huh?" implying they weren't a mid major even though they are. They beat us, but I think this game was an exception and not the rule if we played 100 games. Get Sanchez and Branch in here and have them fly cross country and I think that score is reversed.

So now homecourt advantage matters?

You remind me of Alan Seiden, ex St. John's star. We (St.Stan's All Stars) played him and a bunch of high school stars (Mama Leone's) coached by Garfunkel in the Flushing Y Tournament. Clearly they were the favorites, unfortunately for them I secured the backcourt of Lenny Wilkens and Ray Paprocky (Grover Cleveland H.S.) The little unknown Wilkens from Holy Rosary Parish, Bedford Stuyvesant , stuffed Seiden continually. After the game Alan told me if we played them several times they would beat us. Sound familiar? FYI, Wilkens was not playing with Boys High at the time, his choice. He actually was discovered by scouts at this tournament. A team I played on and coached use to play Holy Rosary on Sunday nights; never beat them. What a surprise.

What an absolutely embarrassing post

St. John's hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game since 2000

For all purposes, STJ has become a mid major program itself

Yes I believe that was me who said that to you. I said it because as we saw last night being from a mid major or a major conference doesn't mean shit! Anyone could beat anyone on any given night. You mention all the top teams in our conference for what? we are not one of them. Yes we play them and lose. We also played and lost to two mid majors this year. Your rants about mid majors are so old, give it a rest. You hold try to put STJ on such a high pedestal when we really are not that good. If last night wasn't a reality check for you I don't know what is.

We are not one of them, and NEITHER IS SF! Stop trying to make them Gonzaga. And now you are saying we aren't that good when before the season people were talking about elite 8's and top 5 finishes in the Big East. Whether or not you want to admit it, there is a big difference between mid major and major hoops. That's why mid majors get minimal coverage and many CBB fans only care about the major teams until tourney time. There's a reason there are different levels in sports. Do you want to argue that the minor league teams belong in the MLB too? At the end of the day the WCC can't hold a candle to the Big East even without those we lost. This board is a very self-hating group. You bash SJ, yet 99% of the teams nationally would sign up to be a Big East team with our history in a second.

Teams that are factors nationally:

Big East: UConn, G'Town, Nova, Memphis, Nova, Cincy,
WCC: Gonzaga, St. Mary's

You can lead an idiot to facts, but you can't make him think. SJ is not a mid major. SF is. You seem to be very confused by this regardless of the obvious truths. As bad as you wish it weren't, the WCC is mid major.

Joe your beating this issue to death. Nobody is saying USF isnt a midmajor. They are a good team, but not a top 25 team. They beat us and would beat teams from other major conferences.

I wasn't gonna get into this conversation, but I felt the need to say something here. Can you stop with the generalizations and hyperbole, Joe3? That seems to be your signature whenever you post. Not to mention, everything is black and white to you.

Do you think anyone on here doesn't know the difference between a mid-major and high-major? You think people on here do not realize that top-to-bottom the Big East is a better conference than the WCC? No one has ever said that wasn't the case.

I don't know if this board is exactly "self-hating," although there are some on here who either blows left or right like the wind or just inclined to be negative. Overall, I'll say the board is fairly, even-keeled.

I'll say, there have been a few times you've made some good posts. OTOH.... You may not want to hear this or care to hear it.... For the most part, you should think before posting. On the real.

We gave him 14 assists and 2 turnovers on a silver platter because 1- we did not respect him and 2- we did not adjust.

I thought we respected Doolin too much by not allowing him to shoot from the outside. I see you're stating by overplaying him on defense could be used as a form of disrespect to Doolin's game.

Basically, we're saying the same thing.

I think the game plan was kaput. How they could let that guard just run over us like he was Earl the Pearl Monroe is beyond me. And it only got worse in the second half. I think the team did a bit too much sight seeing in San Francisco and there wasnt enough of a game plan by the coaching staff.

By some of the posts, yes it does honestly seem like some don't know the difference between mid major and major. And yes it honestly does seem like people think the WCC is better than the Big East. That's why it's so maddening to see. SF (like Baylor) played likely one of if not the best games they will probably play all year. They got red hot and somehow made 60% of 3's which likely will not happen again for a while if not ever again this year. They beat us fair and square and our shots weren't dropping at all. But I'm not ready to get on my knees and hail to them as the new Duke. We are a bunch of freshmen and sophs without a true starting PG and Sanchez. If D'Lo doesn't leave, then I think our big year is next year hopefully with Lawrence or Jordan.

Joe there are idiots on every board and I ignore them{ I am not referring to you} . Anybody that thinks the WCC is better then the BE ,does not know BB. I agree w you that if we had Sanchez, Branch and the game was played in NY that we would probably win. Your problem is; any time somebody replies to 1 of your posts you get defensive and feel you have to reply back... You should let some posts pass w/o responding. Ill say 1 thing about you ,you have a lot of passion toward SJBB.
