1.4 rebounds per 40 minutes for a 6’6 athlete is ridiculous. That’s how I reached my personal conclusion that he’s a scorer at this point.
 
I think every year is going to be like this while we have RPC at the helm. This is not a criticism, but the "new system" has created a weird dynamic not just based on kids shuffling to get the best deal they can (ironically way more freeing than the NBA) but also where kids and coaches who just aren't meshing can get fresh starts. I am sure Pitino would love to see Glover develop, but he's not going to give him minutes if he can't produce on both ends. So JG goes where he will get time despite his worrisome defensive abilities and Rick gets an open slot for an athlete that can fit his system.

I still think that we will eventually see this develop into longer term "contracts" that reduces the chaos we are seeing right now. I am still not sure how I feel. Right now we have RP who can play this game based on his reputation. I am worried about what happens when he retires. I am also sad that we don't get to see many Fr. to Sr. developments, but its not like we haven't seen any. Watching RJ and EJiofor develop has been fun.
 
This is just the reality we are in. Guys like Jaiden/brady aren’t going to stick around if they aren’t getting big minutes. Would have loved for them to stay but it is way better for them to go down a level and produce bigger numbers. Then after a year or two they transfer back up to a big program, get paid, and a solidified starting role.
 
Would have liked to see another year of development from him, but it is what it is. He is already behind Sim and Joson in the rotation and the staff is recruiting two more guys that would take minutes from him. Wish him all the best because he did have flashes, but fingers crossed this means someone announces soon and that was the reason he opted for the portal today rather than two or three weeks ago.

I can think of a guy who's 7'2" and grabbed zero rebounds in 22 minutes in a Final 4 game while playing against a 6'8" guy.

Just a random observation - I agree with you that Glover's overall game needed work in a very similar way to the way AJ Storr's game needed work. Folks like guys who can shoot/score, don't pay enough attention to the rest of the game. As my hero Shaka Smart said, if there's 42 things that contribute to winning basketball, shooting is only one of them.
 
I think we need to find the fine line between developing players and signing out of the portal. I will say again there needs to be more continuity. Coach preaches player development need to let it happen. Also keep thinking in the early days of baseball free agency, Marvin Millers biggest fear was one year contracts with everyone being a free agent every year. He thought the market would get flooded forcing prices down. I would love to hear what he would thing about NIL/Portal world of today.

I think that most programs will continue to struggle with this. Why invest in developing a player who is going to take your investment elsewhere if someone offers him more money? And how many players are interested in paying the price that comes with tough coaching? Difficult to find the right marriage of the two in the modern environment.

When Pitino "stole" Wilcher and Dunlap, then landed the heavily recruited Glover, he said he's build his team around them. Now only one of them is left, and it seems like Wilcher's status as a building block is in jeopardy with the recruitment of experienced guards. I miss the continuity of a team's roster to see them grow. Now, having a player for 3 years will be a rarity.

Not on topic, but the other thing to think about is if Rick really does plan on only coaching for 3 to 5 more years (thought I read he said that) then he may not see the point in bringing a kid along; hence the notion of not recruiting out of high school. If his time with the program has an end date and he wants to win one last championship, then he'll be working on building the best rotation one year at a time.
 
Im not that high on Glover. I can speculate on the do not contact tag he put on his portal entry but someone please explain.

Is it possibly a money play?
