Thank you coach ! ( non negativity thread )

@BrandonTierney: In all sincerity, @SJUCoachLavin is one of the best people in our business. Kind, caring, genuine, sincere...great moral fiber, integrity.

I agree with all the comments here and will reiterate my thanks to Coach Lavin and the staff for taking on the challenge of St. John's (especially under the circumstances he inherited) and never wavering in his optimism and belief that we were on the right track. The program is certainly reinvigorated because of his presence and influence, and I like many on here, thoroughly enjoyed many games, and many huge games, over the last 5 years.

I wish Coach Lav and the staff well in their next jobs and will pull for them to succeed. They've made me proud to be a St. John's alum again, after the most dismal, embarrassing period of our University. For that, I am forever grateful. And, you are now and will always be part of our history and our foundation. Well done!

I wasn't referring to BT. Was referring to post :)

Thanks Coach for making my friends at work aware that SJU actually had a basketball program. Lots of fun moments over the last 5 years. You will be missed...best of luck and most importantly...continued good health!

Indeed , well put.

Thanks coach Lavin for doing a great job under the circumstances. Cuse win this year was worth almost anything. It is hard to stay clean in a muddy world. I do wish you had landed your monster class this year which would have validated and locked up your extension but life gives us turns and god makes things happen for a reason. Best of luck and health to you, your staff and your family.

A little bittersweet for me, since he did so much to help build the program back up, even if he didn't meet expectations. He gave me some amazing memories over the past 5 years and got me excited about the program again. And he did so with class always. Best of luck Lavin.

SJU will be sorry Steve Lavin has left.

Steve did a great job resurrecting the program and the SJU brand.

Steve developed young men that the University can be proud to call alumni. D'lo's personality transformation has been nothing short of amazing. Even Rysheed's commitment to the team in the face of his personal difficulties has been impressive. Many of his players appear to genuinely like him as a coach and individual.

He acted as an educator when it was required, putting the long term interest of the program ahead of what was best for Steve's career. Examples include benching Obekpa for a failed drug test and benching Rysheed.

Yes, "Rise Academy" should have been investigated before sending three (?) players there. The altered transcripts could have been caught earlier, but it seems the University should have been all over that. Not sure that is Steve's fault.

Over the five years, Steve had a pretty impressive record on the court. Certainly a massive improvement over Coach Roberts. However, a college team is supposed to be about developing young men, more than wins and losses. I realize that opinion went out with the dinosaurs. College sports has become so big that at some universities sports seems more important than education.

I am sorry to see Steve go. He leaves big shoes to fill..

Excellent post. Sums up all of my thoughts.

Thanks Coach Lavin. I think a good reflection is the fact that most of these guys will graduate.
