Thank You and Good Luck Sim

Interesting but here is a tweet from Rick Pitino on April 8. Seemed like Sim was in the picture at that time. Maybe things changed. Sure seemed like he was invested in the kid. Maybe Sim is thinking about exploring other options. I guess we’ll see.

I am sure Rick would take Sim back. But, what changed is new kids with Sim's skill set were brought in for more money. Sim may not be feeling the same love and opportunity.

No knock on Sim at all. It's a business decision. I hope he returns, but......

Sanon, Sellers and Jackson all pretty much play his position. To be honest, I'm surprised this hasn't surfaced sooner. With all the lineup constructions people have been throwing out I've been asking myself "why would Sim stay to play 20-25 minutes a game with no guarantee he's going to start, when he could go somewhere else and be the man (or at least A man)?" I guess we'll have our answer soon enough.
This was my exact thought as well. Sims position is definitely a bit crowded and there is less of a guarantee for minutes for him. May even have to play less than last year.

And the handle comment seemed to imply he’d like to see him get some minutes at the point. Plus CRP seemed to go out of his way to complement Sim on the Vice series saying more than once that he was the teams best player in practice.

In the same respect I've never seen a more overrated player that Sim
Im someone who wants Wilcher back from a consistency standpoint and the belief he hasn't yet reached his ceiling. Plus he's a great kid. But if you look at his stats from last year they were pretty bad. If we were recruiting someone from the portal with those stats this board would be furious.

Another thing. In the Big East tournament, Ayo played an important role at the guard/small forward positions and CRP seemed to like his steadiness over Sim in big moments (when outcome of games were in the balance). Some I realize out of necessity due to foul trouble.

I could definitely see Ayo eating into some of Sim's minutes too next year if his maturity on court were not to take a big leap forward.

Sim seemed to get in foul trouble throughout the BET but did average 26.7 mins vs. Ayos 10.7.

If anyone in the 2/3 rotation thinks they should have 32+ minutes per game next year with the foursome as presently expected, including Sim, they're deluded.

Have to assume Sim doesn't want to play PG or is being told staff doesn't think he can. That's the only explanation. Otherwise he had a major role this year and would continue to do so next. But if he wants to be the #1 guy at 2/3 then taking a step down in class may be necessary. I think he can outplay Sellers but not Sanon or Jackson.

Maybe it’s not about playing time.
Very true, could be he was made aware of an offer he can not refuse and STJ can not match. He'd likely drop into the top 50-75 portal guys on the list and we see how much they're making on the open market, is Sim making that in Queens? Also could be a sitch where he portals and takes his best offer to the team to match. I would have no problem with that even if it might seem sketchy to some.

I would prefer to have the PG already in hand, but this isn't really a shock.

I think the thing that burns me the most is that we finally started making inroads recruiting Jersey, and then we lost both kids. But I guess if the plan is to actively not recruit high schoolers that doesn't matter anymore.

The only other thing I can say is that Pitino invested 2 full years with Wilcher and I think , heveas on the verge of busting through to another level.

To me , he has a great deal of talent that could emerge next season .

To those detractors of Wilcher , he was never part of the pecking order of the offense .
It was RJ, Zuby , KR , Scott and then , Sim.
It’s hard to accumulate stats , if you aren’t in a featured role .
He did , along with Scott , get into foul trouble frequently and that also curtailed his numbers .

Another Summer with RP would improve his weaknesses measurably .
I thought Pitino was trying to groom him for play as the PG last season when he backed up Jenkins on occasion . But , it appears that was abandoned .
To me , Sim is a SG , not a PG

Make no mistake , someone will benefit from 2 years of Wilcher if he does portal out of Queens .

On the contrary, he was getting great open looks all season and was not near the top of anyone's game plan defensively. It should be easy to have good shooting numbers in that role. Instead during Big East play it was 26% from 3, 42% from 2. With almost as many fouls (2.6) as rebounds and assists combined (3.2). And if he is a shooting guard with those numbers with those looks, why are we surprised he might be getting recruited over?

Also Sim took the exact same number of shots as Scott in very slightly less minutes so just not correct to say that Scott was more a part of the offense which rightly revolved around our 3 best players RJ, Zuby & Kadary. Having said that I love Sim and hope he returns. There will be minutes for him at both the 1 and 2 but he will have to earn them.
