Appreciate

His blue collar work ethic & positive attitude.

Running court so well

Catching ball better, just needs to work on passes below waist.

Credible rebounder

Understanding time & place better, knowing limitations & avoiding long jumpers.

Great teammate

Comes from solid family, has great support system pushing him to get better.

If he never puts on a ton of weight, I still suspect he will be one of those multi purpose guys good teams need. Kudos to Matt for recognizing his upside. Nice to have him two more seasons after this.

If he works hard off season and can put on 20 pounds, He can be very good next year.

Agree completely. Have loved Tariq since he first stepped foot on the court. Like many of the other kids, he's being asked to carry a heavier load than he should have to, and has done an admirable job of it. The two words that comes to mind when I think of Tariq: Energy and passion.

At this stage is a perfect 1st big off the bench. Would be fine in that role even if we were good. Ironically the reason we are where we are is the two guys he was supposed to play behind have stunk and or left.

I can see the Warrick comparison. Unfortunately we don't have Melo. Although 2017 Melo sort of resembles Ahmad.

Still have issue with the long john look under his uniform however. No wonder he can't gain weight must lose 10 pound each game.

Really agree. Amazing energy, effort, and seems to really want to win in a bad way. Does a lot of little things and makes extra type plays. Getting better quickly too. You need guys like him to build programs, and if you pair a few guys like him as upperclassmen with a few aces that's often when you can do some bigtime winning.

Priority #1 is to get stronger, but as you note even if he doesn't still clearly can contribute. Can't teach that kind of length, and he's coordinated.

So in addition to adding weight am really hoping his offense takes another step forward next year. He's already skilled, good footwork, goes strong to rim and good looking jumper. If he can make that 10-15 footer more consistently, with his high release will be very tough to defend. If he can build off of that with a few counter moves, with his ability to get to rim from mid/high post with 1-2 bounces, think he could turn into a very nice complimentary offensive piece.

Funny tweet from Owens, Sr re need for Tariq to add weight;

Renard buys houses – ‏@eljefe132

@triplesss1123 @Sneaky_Bounce he take after his mother on that one. Off season diet steak & pasta, milkshakes, PB&J 4 times a day

One more thing to add to the diet. Please please please find someone to teach him a jump hook. With his length he could be unstoppable with it if he could make it go in!

Owens has been a very pleasant surprise this season. Based upon his very limited play at Tennessee, we had no reason to expect that he would contribute as much as he has this year.

If he works hard on gaining "good" weight and on strength training during the off season, he could be a very good player for us during the next two years. It would also show future recruits how well we are able to develop talent.

Not confident he will gain much weight. This seems to be his body type. However, very confident he will play hard, work on his game, and play within his skill set and the team concept. The fact that almost no one has bitched about him, especially on a board where nearly everyone is bitching about one player or the next, speaks volumes. I usually write off a transfer's comeback season, especially if they were a non factor at their previous school. To me, he is an over achiever, grabbing rebounds despite giving up pounds every single night. You get a roster full of players with his energy, you are heading in the right direction.

Owens is consistent, high energy and fun to watch. He seems to have a personality that should hopefully be contagious to his teammates. Glad he is here. With that being said I don't think he has the metabolism or body type to put on the pounds (a problem I wish I had!), I am OK with him staying just the way he is.

Early in the season a massive behemoth named Mussini bumped into him and he fell over. He needs to put on some LBs.

I think he was really a toothpick last year and read he did gain weight. So he should be able to do it again.

I think you can get away with a skinny active guy if there's a muscular guy next to him. Clark next to him next season will help. And hopefully Walker. The on-paper version of Yakwe would have looked good next to Owens this season, but for whatever reason, it didn't happen. I don't see Yakwe staying, but maybe he does and plays better.

He will never be massive, but there is no reason that he cannot put on weight/muscle each of the next two seasons.

It takes consistent, disciplined eating and proper training on the major muscle groups.

He needs to be committed to eating. Force the body to adapt to the training.

Regarding weight thing, not sure why he is wearing long john's under his uni. That can't be helping matters. Looks like he getting ready to play in Lambeau Field.

Long John's account for 10% of his weight.
