System question

Well, Mullin would never lie to a kid and tell him he's going to start when he knows what the deal is.
It would have been Matt lying. Mullin never showed up for the campus visit.
I would say that if Mullin never even spoke to the kid you would have a point

Have to show recruits some love. Mullin had to be present , explain to Femi our need for him and make his case for SJU. Inexcusable. If I were a recruit and the head coach wasn’t present on my visit, unless he had a great excuse, I would immediately cross the school off my list. I’m not saying Mullin should be fired but some things are head scratching. Another example is RMN said Dort had interest in us, yet we didn’t actively recruit him. He’s a stud and likely NBA player. Also having both Mullin and Mitch MIA during the summer is strange.

We have an NBA system. Matt is our scout. Mullin relies 100 percent on him. We wait for transfers like an NBA trade deadline. Many high school players go under recruited because Matt and Mullin prefer NBA quick fixes. Thus we will never know from season to season how effective and experienced the roster will be. With that type of system you really need a great teacher and x and o coach good with integrating players. Nate Oats comes to mind. He coached high school for many years successfully and was a teacher. The only staff member with coaching genes is Greg St. Jean. Some were happy with this system when we got Heron and Clark and Simon. Once they are gone it may not be as attractive a system. Only 3 or 4 programs operate this way but their coaches are first class.

Not justDort but Tyrese Samuel is another example. He told me last summer when he was home and we were together at a tournament that both he and my son were playing in that Ewing, Willard and a host of others took the short flight to Canada to show him the love as you would state. Unfortunately we were not in that group. Personally we needed Tyrese more than Dort as Tyrese will be a very good 4 year player whereas Dort may only be in college for 1 season.

That's not happening with just Canadian players. The contact with local players is hit or miss it appears from their interviews. Out of town Big East coaches are pursuing Curbelo and Davis harder. The disagreement with Slice in player game prep and recruiting priorities gave Matt cart blanche to recruit mainly transfers which quickly drove off all the initial high school recruits. In year four Ponds and 3 struggling freshmen summarize our prep efforts. Every other player committed to another program prior to coming. Long term relationships are not being made by the players with each other. Dixon is an example of that disconnect. During the Walk for the Cure event he had no clue where M&M were. He never spoke a word with Ponds or vis versa. Their drill was impromptu and the women's coach was the only senior staff coach present. I've said too much. Don't want to upset folks.

Is that true? If so it's a real shame.
Not the only time.
