Daryl Gross is out as Syracuse athletic director, sources said.

Gross will remain in a position with the university, a source with direct knowledge said.

It will end more than a decade that Syracuse has spent with Gross at the helm of SU athletics. Gross oversaw the school's transition into the big business era of college sports and ACC, along with nearly 10 years of breaking NCAA rules within its athletic programs.

The school announced his resignation just 12 days after a harsh NCAA public report that led to the vacation of 108 wins, a fine of more than $1 million and significant questions about whether the school prioritizes its athletic department over its academic integrity.

Please.
If Gross had been able to build back their football program into a Top 25 program, this wouldn't even be a consideration.

'Cuse will find it will never be the same. Take a look in the mirror 'Cuse you will see Boston College.

Not really . Syracuse has the bones to continue to be a perennial power.

If anything, Boeheim has underachieved given the (legal) resources he has: the Dome, a gigantic fanbase, a ton of booster money and a parade of NBA alums.

They were never like any other Big East schools especially BC.

The three years bit may be something Boeheim put out there to placate his incoming class. Wouldn't be surprised to see him bow out after next year, his 40th, especially if 'Cuse finishes in the middle of the ACC pack.

Come on home McCullough.

Claim hardship,

What hardship? Did you just run over his grandmother?

Maybe not as low as BC but closer to BC than to the old Big East Syracuse.
If you follow college basketball you will see that the successor of a legend
fails for the most part and then it's a uphill climb.

@syrbasketball: Breaking: Jim Boeheim will retire from Syracuse basketball in three yearshttp://t.co/ihnM0PFzWW

His wife will be thrilled having him around the house more. Grumpy guy! :)

I think this a recruiting tool to keep high school players interested. If Syracuse has another down year next year I don't see him staying and much of it may depend on his relationship with the next AD.

Agree, this is all about keeping some very good recruits in place.

I have merged the two threads on the AD/JB since the both came back to the same discussion (Cuse recruiting).
