Syracuse Basketball repeatedly violated....

 Syracuse has a dirty program and has been so for years. Don't think for a minute that the Carrier Dome is enough to lure top notch players to the frozen tundra of up-state NY. In the eighties, a very high profile recruit approached St. John's with a laundry list of demands (including money) to secure his roundball services. His girlfriend was attending our school. He was turned down. He ended up at Syracuse under Jimmie boy. What does that tell you?

It tells me how Mark Jackson became a REDMAN! 

 

I'm not saying Cuse isn't dirty. But if kids cared about the weather and scenery, every basketball recruit would end up in Miami, Florida State, or San Diego State.

And yet generations of All-Americans have been choosing to play in Storrs, CT, Syracuse, NY, East Lansing, MI, Bloomington, IN etc etc

We underrate the campuses in the middle of nowhere. These kids don't care about that as much as we adults do. It's not like they're going to broadway shows, having dinner out, or even looking for a great bar scene - those things matter to US, a lot more than they do to a kid who wants to play one year and then shake David Stern's hand.

 

I agree. Most of their free time is probably spent playing basketball anyway. Besides, parties are good anywhere you are (except maybe BYU and a few others), and girls will always put out for a star athlete.

 

Especially for a softball player.

First step of SU's decline into irrelevance. JB retires. Hopkins takes over. Recruits stop paying attention. Fans don't travel to Tobacco Road, Talahassee, Blacksburg, etc. Join BC in the ACC basement. Enjoy!

 

Unforunately I don't see 'Cuse going anywhere. They're more than just Boheim. That's what 30 years of winning does. They have a program now with facilities, donors, and a fan base that is deep and stable.

I actually think they'll have a better record in the ACC. After Duke and UNC it's not a very strong conference unless Maryland or Wake are both having good years.

I don't see them befalling BC's fate.

 

I do see Pitt taking a bit of a hit...The Big East "made" them and their pipeline for NYC kids will dry up...Like Syracuse they fashioned the Garden to be their home..unlike Syracuse, they dont have the NYC fan base to support a home away from home game...I hope they wither on the vine...

So let me get this straight, let's pick a player, say, "Whoop-de-damn-doo", he gets recruited by having his transcript altered, his grades changed, and then gets to have sex with Laurie Fine, followed by pissing into a jar that fails the drug test, but doesn't get suspended, and he puts 30 points and 20 rebounds on St. John's.

What a country this America is?
