Sympathy for the Hoyas ?
Since it's the new Big East my sympathy extends only as far as us being better than them so if we come in first I'm cool with them coming in second.

Syracuse on the other hand can fuck off and whither away in the snow
Mike, common on. I think you meant yellow snow. :silly:

I have no sympathies for the Hoyas.
My rooting interests are:
St John’s
All Big East teams In OOC games
Yukon (2020) in OOC games, but losses will result in schadenfreude, so I win either way
In Big East play, anybody but Villa Jorge. That is until the Bores from Storrs return...
Mid majors
Not former Big East teams
Not the acc
Not hated in the acc
Hated in acc (light blue)
Hated in acc (dark blue)
Former Big East teams in acc
Syracuse, because Orange Men Bad. It will not matter how many years they toil in their onrushing obscurity (hopefully effective 2019), it will never get old.

I think he was MUCH better at picking his assistants, with a good one in Orr who was a pretty good coach and known recruiter in his own right. Georgetown has also had decent talent over last few years without any major drop offs talent-wise until recently exodus. Time will tell and Ewing I think is much more invested and understands all the things that need to go along with the coaching part, like actual recruiting, summers, having a complete staff etc.

Don't disagree with anything you said. One thing I will say is if Patrick doesn't succeed as head coach it won't be due to lack of effort and preparation.

IMHO, tempting to equate Mullin & Ewing but just not accurate. Patrick paid his dues with many years as a respected assistant coach in the NBA. He is a pretty good coach. Also his record to date with Gtown is 41-32; Mullin's record was 59-73.
If you remove Mullin's year one, where he was left with actually nothing, records are similar, plus Mullin got 1 ncaa bid. Mullins initial staff on paper looked so good we were giddy. We know how Slice worked out and failure to replace him and Mitch being inexperienced and apparently not too interested was part of his undoing.

NBA is much different than college, and dealing with kids as opposed to pros is much different. We will see if he makes it.

I assume Jim Boheim won’t be receiving the BPA Christmas case this holiday season.

I opened this thread thinking sometimes tragic had happened to one of their players or coaches after yesterday’s game or something happened on campus. Since that is not the case, they get no sympathy that guys are leaving their program nor would I expect any from anyone if our players were leaving our program.

I think there is something very distasteful for NBA HOF players having to deal with kids who never will play a minute in the NBA acting like prima donnas and thinking they are already stars.

With the way they've played since the defections, it looks like they won't be needing any sympathy.

On the court, to this point, they look better without Akinjo. Much more of a passing game, creating more open looks for McClung.

I don’t think the Hoyas need a Mass said for them . They have 7 Talented players including 2 7 footers . They also shoot the 3 well . Very well in fact . Akingo was a drain on the team , despite having great skills . Yes , a press may bother them and wear down but , their success with 3’s negates some of their deficiencies . Ewing , despite him being a dyed in the wool Hoya , has not let this team fall apart with the defections . On the contrary . His comments about how much he likes MCClung because of his swagger were enlightening . Also , Boeheim seemed to trash Akingo as a selfish player better to be without .

In 3 games since the defection of two players and one game since the loss of the last two, the Hoyas have fared well. But let's see if that continues in conference play. Actually, I believe Oklahoma State and SMU will fall back to where they were initially slated, and Syracuse will stink it up this season. Georgetown handled their business against those teams, so kudos to 'em.
But I have a hunch our conference foes will likely have something up their sleeve to make Georgetown pay for their short rotation.

Another thing to note.... By pressing 'em till the cows come home, those 3's may become a bit tougher to make with tired legs. They'll also have to concern themselves with potential foul trouble. It's gonna happen, whether it's against us or other conference teams.
