Sunday Dinner with Coach Looie

Not there, neither was Mark Jackson. Felipe, Wennigton, Alagia, Jeff Allen, Jayson, several others, including Barry Millhaven, all there.
To be completely fair, Mullin could have been in but decided not to attend when Carnesecca pulled out. I understand he was in the area this weekend.

Very nice event. Our former players as a group are really nice people, easy to chat with. It was such a huge turnout it was impossible to chat with everyone I would have liked to. Did speak with Ron Stewart, who was there with Gordie Thomas, also chatted Billy singleton, Zendon, and a bunch others.

Rick brought his entire team, and Rick really understands the tradition of St. Johns and how important it is for his players to know they are part of something much bigger than themselves. Got a chance to speak with RJ who said he is ready to go at 100%. Joked with Brady that with his new weight and muscle I'd want to see him punish someone with a flagrant, which he thought was funny. All in all Rick has recruited a bunch of great kids who Rick is very high on.

It was a day to be proud of St John's and to celebrate just how Coach C has been the one constant in his lifelong affiliation with St Johns. The only thing missing was Coach.

Bruce Beck was an awesome mc and choked up when he said that sfter his own Dad, coach was the guy he loved and admired most. He recounted that an interview he did outside of coach's home during Covid was nominated for an Emmy.

Red.fans was well represented with too many guys to name. All great great people to a person.

Man, if Pitino can get us deep into March, the city will explode with an outpouring of fans.

Today was kind a reminder of just how great it is to be a Johnny, and how ready we all are for a great season.

I am sorry I missed Ron Stewart. I think Shawnelle Scott was there also.

IDidn't know Carnesecca was not able to be there. Thanks for sharing that.
Coach C has not been feeling well for a few weeks now and 2 weeks ago heard that he was iffy depending on how he felt. At 99, this stuff happens and honestly, with a Covid resurgence this past summer, it's better he was not exposed to hundreds of people engaging him.

Yea he was there as was former AD Ed Manetta and of course present AD Ed Kull.

Where are you seeing the pictures?
For some reason I’ve been Facebook friends with Ron Naclerio for about 20 years lol. He posted pictures.

Any other recaps or pictures, greatly appreciated. Let's all pray for Coach's health, apparently it's been on the fritz (as he might say) for a bit now. I am sure if he was up to it Coach would have been there. What a tremendous human being, and the St. John's family is lucky to have had such an admired individual to be its Ambassador for so long.

Bruce Beck saying what he said is awesome. Although he went to Ithaca College, Bruce is a Johnnie at heart.

Beck is a very special guy. When he emceed the President's dinner for several years, he was always exceptionally well prepared, well dressed, and so passionate, talented, and professional that he singlehandedly elevated that event. He did so again at Sunday Supper.

For years Beck brought his family to St John's Bread and Life on Thanksgiving to help distribute meals to those less fortunate

Beck may not have graduated from St John's but is as much a Johnny as anyone in our city. At one President's dinner, he remarked, "I didn't go to school here but I do bleed Johnny's red."

Thank you Bruce for all you continue to do.

I also want to acknowledge Former Brooklyn City Council Member Rob Cornegy. He was present at Coach Looie’s Supper, as well.
He was a center on our Final Four Team. He’s a terrific guy, and may even be our next mayor of NYC.
