With Pitino here, everything seemingly pointing up, and with the knowledge it won't last forever, should we be...
  • continuing to push for facilities updates NOW
  • continuing to get doner lists updated and slow funding drips ($5 a month from tens of thousands) done NOW
  • finally moving on dropping "Red Storm" and pivoting to "Johnnies". If anyone could shepeard this idea forward it would be Rick Pitino.
The horse, the tornado, the "storm" - it's just terrible.

I'll hang up and listen.

At this point they are the Red Storm. Its been what 28 yers or so. Its been so long that I can't remember when they changed nicknames. As you can see by my avatar where my heart lays but its the Red Storm. It was never a great move but at this point? More people know Red Storm than miss the Redmen or want the nickname changed.

I miss the Redmen.

Red Storm was forced upon us by the fake outraged. I'm a New Yorker and grew up watching the Redmen. I'll take Redmen back in a NY minute, and think most would...

Then again, I'm a traditionalist in many respects:

I cross the 59th Street and Tri-Borough bridges. We don't do "Ed Koch" or "Mario M. Cuomo" over here.

I walk and talk with a slice. Baconeggandcheese is one word, and the number four rhymes with paw!

Names like SpaHa (Spanish Harlem) and SoBro (the South Bronx) aren't in my vernacular.

Bring back the Subway tokens, lol

I remember coming home from the Garden after a “big” game, walking down a late night quiet street in Queens with my head pounding from the noise that night. The pounding sound was from me screaming “Let’s go Redmen”. So whatever, times change and I’m a dinosaur but they always will be the Redmen to ME.

The e Washington Commanders , a ridiculous name , are very seriously trying to return to the Redskins .
The Atlanta Braves , Kansas City Chiefs , Florida State Seminoles never bowed to the Crazies that allegedly believed it was a slight to our Native Americans .

To the contrary ,many of the Tribes went beserk when faced with the prospect of having their Teams stripped of their Nicknames .
I think the Seminole Tribe , actually sued or threatened to sue , if the Seminole name and likeness were removed from Florida State teams .
Many of us old timers also know the story behind how we became the Redmen . A NY Sports reporter coined the phrase in writing his story on a game we played back in the day . He referred to the Team as Redmen due to the color of the Uniforms , not any mention of Indians or Tribes .
The Indian evolved over the Years as a mascot but , it didn’t seem to offend most of us or , the general public .
Yes , we should reinstate the Redmen as our Mascot .

Red Storm is a useless name .

Last night our nickname should have been Red Wedding. UConn invited us into their home as guests to the Ben Gordon jersey ceremony and we slaughtered their chances of a Big East regular season title.
I think in the Red Wedding the guests got slaughtered.

HELL NO!!!!!

Why, so we can be like the St. Bonaventure Bonnie’s????? St. John’s Johnnies, no thanks.

It’s great as an unofficial nickname that was also used when we were the Redmen and it should stay that way.

We have more pressing needs dealing with NIL ad facilities than rebranding a nickname.

The owner of the Washington Commanders has unequivocally stated that changing their nickname is a non issue, isn’t under consideration and is not happening.

FSU and the Seminole Nation have an historic history of cooperation, programs and support. It is due to that history they have a bond that will not be broken. Not all of the other Nations and Tribes agree with the Seminoles position.

While history says the nickname was due to us wearing red uniforms, the mascot and logos historically were Indians and that is how the nickname became associated.

Whil the mascot didn’t seem to offend most of us or the general public, how many are American Indians.

Being married to my wife who is part American Indian and have relatives who live on a reservation, this subject has come up especially when the name was changed. While she had no problem with our previous nickname, others in her family did.

And if we were to revert back, what do you do with the Women’s team’s? Do they become Redmen too or something else like the Express which was the Women’s Basketball nickname?

Personally, I am fine with either way, Redmen or Red Storm (although at the most recent football reunion, I grabbed two mini Redmen Helmets instead of Redstorm as I was a Redmen). The most important thing to me is the name on the front of the Jersey and the one on my Degrees which is St. John’s.

“finally moving on dropping "Red Storm" and pivoting to "Johnnies". If anyone could shepeard this idea forward it would be Rick Pitino.

What the hell is a Hoya and what does a bull dog have to do with it? The Orangemen/Orange and The Dome Ranger?

The current mascot is fine and the next generation of fans (kids) love it. Sure beats the Red Tux and Johnny the Lion. The kids loved the horse and he was okay.

If we cannot go back to the Redmen then yes we should be the Johnies. TV sportscasters call us the Johnies. Many call us the Johnies in print.
The fact that there is one other Johnies school is not significant. There are many schools who the same mascot name.
Bulls, Bulldogs, Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY.

I’ve always called them the Johnnies and always will but get that St. John’s Johnnies doesn’t work. Given that I’m fine with them officially being the St. John’s Red Storm. It’s never going back to Redmen so not much point in barking up that tree.
