STJ in NBA Summer League

While LaMont played for Norm, I wouldn't call him a Norm guy. As I recall he was a Jarvis guy who didn't get swept out in the Pittsburgh scandal, although he did play a lot for Norm. Its good to see he's getting a chance in the summer league. He always had a lot of potential but way too often missed the bunnies.

Could be wrong but he played one year (actually like half a year) under Jarvis and the rest under Norm. So if that is true and I recall that correctly, I would peg him more Norm than Jarvis.

But either way he was recruited and signed by Norm. And by the way, Moose-move on and grow up, will you please? :)

You mean Jarvis ;)

Yes, sorry misspoke on my post. Thanks for the correction but you still need to grow up and move on. :)

I know many have disagreed with me but Dwight is an NBA talent its a shame he's on a summer league team whose roster is impossible to make. Hopefully he impresses and gets picked up by another club.

I wouldn't say its impossible to make. They have so much money devoted to 3 guys they are going to have to fill out the end of the bench with players willing to play for a lot less. Now will he see the court is another story. This is the case for more and more team nowadays.

Moose is on it.

If the Nets were to land Howard, same thing...they'd have to fill out a bench full of minimum contracts. Difference is that the Heat do have guys going there for less money to hop on the wagon. Hopefully D Buckets will find a home somewhere in this league.

Two other quick things:

1. Man, did Norm kill puppies or something? :) I do think Lavin in that last year for that group of seniors, with Dunlap, really put some polish on those players. Though in the case of Dwight, he also just gave him the ball.
2. I have so much respect for Lamont Hamilton. He really was the anchor post-Pitt and he held himself very well in such a crud spot. Good luck to him.

peace.

Evans just tweeted he will not be playing Summer League 'because of some complications and mix ups'. Sorry Bobre

The Nets just signed Jerry Stackhouse......I kid you not.

A little late for April fools isn't it Moose. Was Bob McAdoo unavailable?

Paris and Burrell didn't seem to do much in yesterday's games (Friday) for Warriors, Bobcats, respectively. Warriors blog on SBNation said Burrell wasn't physical enough (contact) despite great ability to leap. Both played off the bench, 15-18 minute range--perhaps more awaits in that they do four games in four days generally, if not five?. Article in today's Post about Dwight playing the point, he feels ready. Perhaps he'll have more of a chance to shine? Summer league must be tough. I mean, all of those invites are filling out rosters for exhibition games, but how many actually latch on to teams?

Burrell actually played decent. He was too hesitant at times though.

The problem with Golden State is that they are loaded on the wings.

You consider Burrell a wing?

No I don't. Just like I don't consider Thomas Robinson, Jared Sullinger and Terrance Jones as SFs but they both played like such in the summer league. Maybe I should have said Forwards instead of wings.

Did you watch the game? He was splitting minutes with Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green and Jeremy Tyler.

I didn't think he played poorly at all. Just wish he was more aggresive.

Did not watch the game, but if they are playing him as a wing he won't succeed sadly. Remember its summer league so teams aren't built the way they normally are. GS has Barnes, Jefferson at the 3. Burrell would be competing behind the likes of PF's like Lee, Tyler, McGuire and Draymond who is an undersized 4. And alongside Centers like Bogut, Ezeli.

Paris Horne played much more for the Bobcats last night versus Cleveland.

When Dunlap was running some different defenses, like zone, it seemed like he was leaning on Paris to be the coach-on-the-floor to speak. If he is ever going to catch on with an NBA team, its going to be because of his defense. His jump shot still leaves a lot to be desired, but with hard work it could become serviceable. Good luck PH.

checked out some of the message boards on SBNation's Bobcats page.

Dunlap seems to be winning over their fans some already. They are impressed with the defensive effort, though many question the ability to press year long in an NBA season (though in the second summer game, he seemed to focus more on zone and whatnot). But still, much chatter about Dunlap bringing in a new culture.

Funny about Paris being a floor leader of sorts. I noticed Burrell was doing that some the other day as well. Still, I don't see many or any of these kids latching on. Even D-Buckets had a very quiet box score yesterday. Even DJ, with is solid late year stint with the Cavs didn't seem to put up much. I don't know what these coaches are looking for in summer league players, but again, they're lucky if there is even a spot for them on a 12 man roster.

Here's hoping Dunlap shows the doubters what's what.

Each team is different in how they treat summer league. GS brought Klay Thompson but he played just 1 game I think and Jerry West said they were shutting him down. Not sure what they needed to see in the time he played to know he's already a legit player. Some players might be told to defer more. Some might be told to gun it. Its interesting to see but not the end all be all as we all know. I saw Justin's 2nd game and liked his energy. Buckets had no chance to get in the game last night. Saw Paris' first game and didn't see much. All up and downs.

I haven't followed at all, but I know someone mentioned DJ was playing the 1. If I liked a 2/3 guy enough for my roster, I'd play him at the 1 in the summer also to help improve his handle and decision making, thus elevating his value at his natural position. So I think DJ is already penciled in for the regular season by the Cavs. Other guys . . . my fingers are crossed.
