As expected, per Zach B
St. John's forward Ian Steere's appeal for a legislative relief waiver was denied, per source. He will be eligible at start of the end of the semester. First game will be against Albany on Dec. 18. #sju

Well at least he'll have Albany & the Arizona game to log some minutes before getting thrown into conference play. He'll be needed.

I’m ok with this. I figured it would be the case. Now let’s just get Dunn cleared.

At least we know we are getting Steere before conference play , need his size badly in league play. Dunn is the huge one now really need his scoring to have any chance once the competition picks up.

I'm happy with this, didn't think we'd get him for 2 OOC games (including the big one vs #19 Arizona).

Was the waiver to be eligible immediately, or to regain a lost season of eligibility over six minutes of playing time as a frosh?

Not surprised on this one. At least he will get a couple of games before BE season. I know someone else said he can also practice. If true, that’s a positive.
Will he have 2.5 or 3.5 years of eligibility remaining?
That for me is the big question. I never thought he would have a chance to play before the end of the semester.
2.5 I believe
I might be dense but if he played one and then transferred he would sit out one and 3 years to play. (Simon as an example.) So he has now been in college 1.5 years and NCAA gives you 5 years to use 4 years of eligibility. after semester he will have 3.5 years left on the 5 years?? Boy is this screwy!.

He quit his team and stayed in school the entire first semester. By rule he was always going to be eligible after the end of the first semester (and always eligible for Albany and AZ). Argue the rule but the ruling is consistent. Unfortunately many others aren't which is why Moose and Fordham can continue their debate.

Thats why midyear transfers loose a year of eligibiity after a semester and another year after they sit, even though they played 2nd semester. Doesnt seem fair, though.

Of course I do.
I was at the game tonight vs. Columbia, and saw that Steere had a noticeable limp. Anyone else notice that? I hope he's not hurt.
Yes. Also noticed another big guy on the bench that I had not seen at any other games.
