Staff order in recruiting

Does anyone know who is responsible for the Slice mess, and are they being held accountable?

Is this a rhetorical question?
Everyone knows that Mullin requested and got approval to select his staff. Slice leaving Kentucky was considered a big coup and the contract negotiations and subsequent salary reflect the desire of Mullin to compensate Slice at a better rate than Kentucky. He named him "associate head coach" to justify that outrageous salary that most bluebloods don't pay. In just 6 short months and especially after one disastrous season, Slice was never treated as an "associate", was rarely consulted during time outs in favor of Greg St. Jean drawing plays and making Matt Abdelmassih the chief recruiter.
Who is/was responsible? Season three and Slice is still collecting his checks.
Take a wild guess!!

And we have a number of players the genius Associate Head Coach recruited. Oh yeah, right.

Yes that pretty accurate

Slice only recruited a few months before being pushed aside after the Big East season started (disastrously for Mullin).
FWIW, Slice recruited the only true serviceable and proven player that first season in Durand Johnson. Three of the other first year players were actually recruited by Steve Lavin's staff, mostly Tony Chiles, in Mussini, Lovett and Yakwe. Mullin took the lead, along with Slice, in convincing Purvis Ellison to send Malik across the river. Malik is now at Slice's former school Pitt. Matt recruited Yankuba Sima (gone), Ron Mvouika (bust), Darien Williams (injured and gone).
P.S. Matt also recruited Luther Mohammed, Sidney Wilson, Laverne Brown, and Nasir Little.
I'm sorry! What was your point/question?

Giving Durand Johnson a lot of credit and calling Ron Mvouika a bust? I think Ron played right where we expected him to.

Mvouika was not a bust. a solid case is made that we got more than expected from Mvouika

If Mvouika had given to a winning team what he gave to us that year, he'd be much more fondly remembered.

He rebounded pretty well, could handle the ball in short spurts, played decent D, and really went hard after loose balls. The problem was, on a team that struggled to put the ball in the basket enough as it was, he did nothing to alleviate that problem.

Still, you can't really fault the staff for anyone they got to play on that team in season 1. It's not like they could pick and choose among the country's best players/transfers.

Did you expect a 1-17 Big East season, the worst in school history? I applaud Ron's effort but our approach was beggars can't be choosy and we were not. In most games he got ended early and was a non factor on defense. Forget the stats as I was comparing Slice and Matt that first year and anyone who was familiar with Durand knows he was the only quality player brought on compared to Matt who has mostly struck out more than the Mets if you read my missive above. On top of that he got a fat raise after the LSU tease but Sima still transferred, as did Williams as did Wilson and he was the lead recruiter for all the players I mentioned above. None of whom are here or coming.
I agree Matt needs help because the results thus far speak for themselves. Transfers that played secondary roles on other teams may not miraculously become impact players under thus staff. Thus Mullin also needs help but I don't see that happening either. Which circles back to Slice and the fact that he is still on payroll and we are falling further behind in the recruiting game.
