Let's not act like we need a miracle to make it. The committee has been very fair to Big East teams, including St. John's the one year we were in it.
We simply need to not lose any bad games (or at a maximum lose 1) and go about 10-8 in conference. Our OOO schedule is fine and doesn't require an excellent conference record, unlike Georgetown.

Play better defense (all facets) and rebound. I really believe that is all we need. Plenty of offensive fire power, and better defense and rebounding should lead to some easy baskets.
the following three improvements are reached:
1 Ponds and LoVett's games improve as most sophomores do. Not in scoring so much but in defense,shot selection etc.
2 Ahmed's play improves as most JUCO's do in their second year
3 Simon and Clarke's play are an improvement over the minutes of Ellison, Mussini and Yawke.

WIN 20 GAMES..COACH SHOULD NOT TAKE OUT A PLAYER WHO JUST SCORED,WITH A NEW GUY JUST BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THE ROTATION... DONT KILL THE MOMENTUM..
That's certainly not enough. That just moves the team from bad to mediocre. Last year they only lost to two teams RPI 150+. Turning those to wins would have made no difference. Getting into the dance requires a better than 5-14 record against the top 100. Without more than a couple quality wins doesn't matter how bad you beat the bad teams.

It all depends on how much scoring we get from our newcomers - Clark and Simon. We know what we will get from Ponds, Lovett and Bashir,. don't expect much from Owens and Yakwe. Of course we have to improve defensively 100%.
I think we can get 16-18 points a night from Owens, Yakwe, and Amar. That's not awful from the five spot.

We make the tournament with room to spare if Clark gives us 8 ppg and between 5 and 6 ppg.
Would help if Yakwe and Amar really attack the boards as well. With no depth, we really need to have those guys steal as many minutes as they can so Owens doesn't foul out every game.
And if Trimble can play at this level. Otherwise, the guards will be gassed.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the kid many fans ridiculed and the staff thought they could "waive" turns out to be the throwback 4 year player who becomes a super sub as a senior?
Man ill be real surprised if Clark doesn't average 8 pts.

I think overall the board has been overrating him. I think he's our starting center, and as the game progresses he'll play PF and SF, so he'll certainly get the minutes. Hopefully he can do something. He averaged 20 ppg as a senior against what I assume was decent competition at Sunrise, but the rebound numbers were never huge.

Clark isn't as big, but I kind of liken him to the role of Brownlee in Lav's first year. Brownlee actually nudged out Kennedy as the #2 option, with Hardy assuming the #1. Ponds IMO is at least as good as Hardy, though Hardy had an incredible run where he was one of the top players in the country, his ceiling is much higher and he has a much better handle. As we know, Ponds/Lovett is our best backcourt in some time and if Simon is a good as his HS profile, we may have something there in terms of a top flight backcourt for all 40 minutes.
I believe Clark would have to become a legitimate #3 or #4 option, and if we are to make the tourney has to be in the 10-12 ppg range. Ahmed is going to get his points for sure, and I think the season will hinge on how efficient he is at shot selection and shooting %.
Great post beast agree completely. We will need scoring from the 4/5 spot and Clark gives us best option. I think it will be hard for him not to average 8 game. If he can be efffiecent as brownlee was and work the middle of the court similarly then we could be in for great year.
