Aside from the obvious stay healthy what does everyone think.

I say if Owens averages 25+ minute a game we make it.

Win the Big East Tournament.

Not saying that's the only way we can get in, but it's the only assurance that we will be in.

it does not lose any games it should win: New Orleans, Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart, Grand Canyon, Nebraska, Iona, Saint Joe's, and others and it can have a chance for a post season tournament.

No more losses to LIU, Delaware State, Incarnate Word, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, McNeese State, or Fordham.

Rebound margin of (-3) or better in conference games.
Defensive ppg below 75 in conference games.

Do you really think so man?

1. Guards play better perimeter defense.

2. Yakwe averages more rebounds than Ponds (was not the case last year)

3. Four players average double-digits

Clark, Simon, or Owens?

Although there are probably a few other things that need to happen for them to be a tourney team, I am going to throw out 3 things I think that St. John's needs to do in order to have a chance:
-Play defense
-Play better defense than last year
-Improve defensively

;)

Five things

- Coaching staff continues to learn the college game
- Simon and Clark play to expectations
- Ponds avoids sophomore jinx
- Owens and Ahmed show us the improvement that Brownlee produced in 2010
- Aviod long term injuries to top six players.

Improved defense & rebounding resulting in some easy buckets.

Getting off to a solid start before BE games, building momentum and then holding serve in League play.

Stealing some road games.

LoVett playing the point at a consistently high level.

I think the biggest key is Yakwe playing to the level he did as a freshman.

Second, we need to play better overall team defense and rebounding.

Third, we need Ahmed to play like he did toward the end of last year, and we get good production from the 2 transfers,

Largely think NCAA is a long shot... a very long shot.

We need improved rebounding, but we are thin on the front line and at least on offense Clark likes to play away from the basket. When other teams attack the basket and they will, our bench is very very thin when it comes to front line talent.

As much as our small guards like to attack the offensive glass, it puts us in a weak position defensively when we don't get rebounds. Sort of like pulling the goalie in hockey to flood the offensive end with an extra player. That has to stop.

Simon has to prove to be a reliable distributor. I suspect we will see a lot of the 3 guard offense, and if SImon's freshman year was not an accurate one in terms of proving what he can do at this level, we may have something.

Clark's three point shooting has to be restrained as keeping defenses honest. We need his strength to be a banger and get to the line. He will have to become our third reliable scorer since most NCAA teams have at least 3 guys they can count on for double digit scoring.

Ponds and Lovett both has to play refined games that reduce the number of bad shots, up their shooting percentage (which were reasonably good but considering the number of shots within 10 feet could be better).

Owens has got to improve his progress as a straight up defender and a defensive stopper (not just blocked shots). He will have to score a little also.

The 7 and 8 spots in the rotation must be solid Big East contributors and not liabilities.

The end of the bench must produce at least 1-2 players who can step in when needed and provide valuable spot time.

Mullin must continue his progress as a coach and shed vestiges of former player trying to be a coach.

Nice poignant topic :)

To keep it simple...
Let's play hard on both ends, keep good attitude which our kids have, the Simon Clarke Trimble factor and then =
the Ws will come as will the or a tourney

I'll make it simpler... We have some good players and apparently nice kids... enjoy the season and leave the goals to the coaches and players. It makes life less stressful and easier to just root for the best

I think we get in and play the 8-9 game. That is my prediction.
Anything less and I would consider it a disappointment honestly.
Might be aggressive but I think we are built for this year especially since you can't count on Lovett coming back again.
If we don't make this year might still have a chance next year but then after that...........

We just have to improve our perimeter defense and I believe that starts with Justin Simon acting as a defensive anchor on the perimeter.

Shamorie Ponds can play zone defense well, but he has to improve his man to man defense ( he did show flashes that he can).

Absolutely Beast
Let's just enjoy!
Keep the complications and frustrations on the sidelines/ in the cheap seats lol

Rebound every game like it's your last game and defend like your sister's virginity is at stake. The team has plenty of offense if only the coaches learn to harness that offense so it doesn't look like street ball. If no post season and the staff loses its major targets then it may be worthwhile to reopen Dante's, curtain off a private table in the back and hire Rick Pitino and Mike Rice and become the real bad boys of college basketball because if we are going to basketball hell I rather go with the devil.
