St John's - Villanova

Lets go Johnnies, been waiting for what seems like 2 weeks for this game! Need to win one of these first 2 road games if we want to be considered a NCAA team.

I will be at the game tonight, my first St, John's game in person! Looking forward to it!

Welcome aboard NYCNative and enjoy the game. Cheer for all of us who cannot attend.

Decent matchup for us. Considering we rebound like the CYO teams that play at halftime at CA, their bigs are not too much for us to handle. Mouph is extremely soft and Sutton is not a BE player to begin with but does play hard. Even though they can hit 3's, they struggle off the dribble. Considering all of the hype surrounding Branch's defense, it will be embarrassing if he is not able to shut down Arch tonight who is considerably slower and a marginal BE pg, IMO. A very winnable game, but our performance this year has been so disheartening, who knows

Arcidiacono is more than marginal. If they didn't learn anything from the USF game, Arci will have a career assist night.

He's a phenomenal passer as a frosh.

Struggles breaking defender down off the dribble. No excuse for Branch tonight if he is on him to not shut him down.

Also, to sum up the state of both of these programs right now- Jeff Borzello of cbs has an article outlining his college bball games to watch for tonight. Florida Gulf Coast vs Mercer is listed with no mention of our game. Pretty sad.

Borzello has a hard on vs. STJ for some reason. Can't quite figure it out honestly.

Can't say I've seen him this year but his assist #'s seemed to have leveled off after some big early games.

I will be there (live in Philly) and really looking forward to it. Student tix are still available or at least they were a few hours ago. Not a great building, unless you have a very good seat. Honestly, CA is way better...

I am as frank and honest as anyone and this team looks like a major disappointment thus far, but to say that people would rather watch FGCU vs. Mercer rather than our game is a flat out lie. It's like saying you'd rather watch Bucknell vs. Jacksonville State in football instead of Wake Forest vs. Virginia. At least SJ and Nova are major teams that have some history. No one cares what FCGU or Mercer does unless it's an upset in the NCAA tourney.

Agree. Much better than Greene.

If history has taught us anything, it's that no matter how poorly a team is playing, it's never a given to beat them on the road. This is a winnable game for us yes, but make no mistake, it will be an upset if we pull this off. I don't mean b/c of the line/spread, simply b/c our record the last few years has been one of the worst in the nation. Granted, a lot of that came under Norm's watch, but the bottom line is, we have no chance of winning tonight if we play the way we've played against lesser teams as of late.

Well Ryan is PG. That wouldn't be such a shocker.

I meant all aspects, not just passing.

He has tremendous court vision for a kid his age.

I wish we had him on our team.

I have a bad feeling we may get blown out here. Having to sit on that terrible loss for 11 days, sulking, now traveling to Philly to face a Nova team riding high on 5 straight wins. This will be the first Big East game for Obekpa and Sampson, so they may be nonfactors until they get used to the major step up in play. Something about Nova just makes me feel like they are extremely dangerous and can easily beat us by 20 if we don't get going from the start. This is going to be a very rough year for us conference wise. All those games we came back from 10-20 ish down...we cannot do that anymore because the Big East teams will smell blood in the water and shut the door on us. I would consider this year insanely successful if we can get a .500 conference record.

I don't think we get blown out. I think if Nova has a small lead near the end, we'll lose.

But I think if we get out to a big enough lead in the 2nd half (10 points), we'll hold them off and get the W. I don't trust Nova's outside shooting to save them.

We have to outrun them. Kill them in transition.

They're physical down low, but short. Obekpa has to stay out of foul trouble. I don't support Lavin tinkering with the lineup so much, but this isn't a game that I would start Obekpa. I'd start Jones and Sampson and bring Obekpa off the bench.

I think Harrison may go off offensively. But I don't think we'll be able to contain Arci from penetrating.

SJU 68
Nova 65

That's my prediction for everyone painting me as a doom & gloomer :)

We should have the best player on the floor (Harrison) so I think we have a good shot to win this one.

I cant say if his passing is phenomenal or not, however I can say that his willingness to pass isn't.

The three times ive seen them this year I came away thinking he was a chuck. Hes a good, tough player. But seemed like a black hole.
