St. John's Picked 12th - USA Today

Yes , predictions by Pundits can be accurate. Hope the teams play shows them they should have had more confdence in us

Predictions from the pundits can also be inaccurate. Most pundits had the Johnnies no higher than 6th a season ago. (I also saw them picked either 10th or 11th by someone). How did that turn out?

Honestly, an 11th place finish for this particular team (youthful and shorthanded) is actually pretty decent. I'm looking forward to seeing how this team matures during the season. I guess it would also be a good idea to see how the season plays out before I consider a prediction to be a disappointment.

I expect a dud early game (Detroit) and also us knocking off a big boy early.

Eli Holman took a leave of absence from the team, so Detroit becomes a lot less formidable if he remains out.

Yeah I mentioned that somewhere else that it changes considerably if he's out.

Not really impressed with the first or second team, probably weakest picks in years. Are they for real leaving out Lamb? :eek:hmy:

That all being said I agree the frontcourt scares the bejesus out of me. But if I told you that Pelle and Amir were here on Dec 21st how does that alter your predictions.

From the little I saw tonight, it doesn't.

It looks like this group has individual talent, but they have a looooong way to go. A couple more talented guys showing up in December would help, especially if they have some size, but they will be starting out the learning process just when the existing group will (hopefully) have gotten the hang of it - at which point the schedule kicks them in the teeth with league play.

it's a good thing Coach is a super-positive guy. I think this team is going to need to feed off of his confidence at times.

They need to win all the softies, try not to get beat up too badly by some of the uglier non-conference games, learn the system cold, and gel by the time conference play arrives.

That's a whole pile of homework. I don't think this year is going to be last year's magic carpet ride - there are going to be some Norm-esque bumps in the road this year, I think.

i am optimistic that next year will be a good one, though. I just think it is going to take a season.
