St.John's Mentioned .....

Sharon Lawrence's character Sylvia Sipowitczs was a Law School graduate of St. John's.
Got to be NYPD Blue right? Andy's wife.

Yes. I didn't realize that I'd left out the name of the show.

There was a TV comedy series that lasted a year called "Where I Live." It ran during Brian Mahoney's first or second year as Head Coach here. One episode involved a local kid who was a star in High School and was now a Freshman on the team at St. John's. The neighborhood gathered around the TV to watch the game only the kid never got in despite a blow out win by St. John's. The characters were watching the game and you could here the announcers on the TV making commentary. One line basically says "And St. John's coach Brian Mahoney has emptied the bench and everyone has played except that Freshman who is still sitting at the end of the bench."

Basketball Diaries-SJU mentioned by Leonardo DiCaprio.

My wife reminded me cuz she a reader of these...

Along Came a Spider by James Paterson (book - Alex Cross)

" Just before eight, we arrived at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. Georgetown was playing St. John's from New York City. Jezzie had choice tickets. That proved she knew everyone in town. It's easier to get into an inauguration ball than certain Big East games."
....

"The St. John's Redmen. Chris Mullin came from there. They're also called the Johnnies. Chris Mullin plays for Golden State in the pros now. They're called the Warriors.

Saw the movie, never read the book. I liked the movie.

Not a direct SJU Hoops mention, but Malik Sealy and Mark Jackson both had supporting roles in the Whoopi Goldberg basketball comedy "Eddie" (what? - some of you don't remember this cinematic masterpiece?).

Yes.I remember it thought it was a cute movie

Was not George Clooney a St. John´s grad in one of his films?. I think that Michael Clayton was the film.

I'll give it this much: It was better then "Celtic Pride", which was another basketball comedy that came out around the same time.

Also, in that same time frame, Chris Mullin had a cameo (with many other NBA stars) in the Billy Crystal comedy "Forget Paris."

I was watching Tough Crowd on youtube and Quinn said peace in Iraq had "the life expectancy of a Jason Williams party guest." I think that qualifies.

Minko sporting the St. Johns shirt on the Boomer & Carton show with Kim Jones and the Moose.

NY Post's Phil Mushnick (aka Mr. Negative) writes:
College as a second language: With Chris Mullin spanning the globe for players, I wonder how many non-basketball players — aka, students — St. John’s recruits from around the world. Do you have to read, write, speak or even understand English to attend classes, or is all of that, including classes, optional?

Mods can this be made into a separate thread?

Mr mushnicks comments are inaccurate, rude, and a clear attack job on any hard working foreign student attending SJU, basketball player or not. I think the school need to address his comments with a press release our president who was an American foreign student should tackle this as he is a fine example of the American dream.

Wow. What a douche.

Yea, I never saw this A-hole have anything good to say about anyone.

Except Doc Emrick, who he worships. That's funny, because he rips every other broadcaster on the planet for screaming too much, and that's all Doc does on the broadcasts, yet Mushnick loves him.

Exactly what he wants. That is his milieu.
