St. John's Fight Song

According to Instagram we have a new fight song, not sure if I can make out what they are saying though. I tried to upload the 10 second clip but I don't think this site has the bandwidth for it.

Not sure what they are saying but sounds like it's 60+ years old from a Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade band.

Awful....

This won't help get students excited at games.

I don't think the mp3 does it justice. The video is the dance team & cheerleaders and they are quite energetic while singing (I guess that's what they are supposed to do though LOL) But you might have a different opinion if you saw it, unfortunately I don't think there is a way to upload the video on here.

I am a self proclaimed weirdo and am a big fan of college fight songs
This sounds like an updated version of a St John's fight song that was utilized many years ago
At one time, our "fight song" was the Washington Redskins fight song tune
Maybe we moved away from it to be politically correct
Just like we moved away from being called the "Redmen"
Fwiw, I never (and will never) embrace the term :"Red Storm"
Hard to believe that it took a whole committee to come up with that lame result
But I would be glad to have a fight song again
We may the only "big time" school not to have one

We've always had a fight song, the problem was that our original fight song has the word "Redmen" in it, so that is why they changed it to that lame one, which I also didn't like. This one at least (assuming it is a new fight song) has a bit more pep to it. If we win more games and go dancing in March, no one will care what your fight song it :p

The original fight song, before political correctness

Fight for old St. John’s, cheer for old St. John’s
For the good old red and white
Show them how to fight, let them feel your might
For St. John’s will win tonight
We will rally ‘round you, cheer you, help you win another game
Though you may be battered you will win it just the same
Redmen fight, fight, fight, for victory
A cheer for old St. John’s
Lets go SJU (this part was said with your fist in the air, today it may be considered to violent)

Hate song !

Most fight songs are downright awful or goofy or both.

Always though we should just keep it simple and go with Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" at games:

Go, go Johnnies, go.
Go, go Johnnies, go.
Go ...
Johnnies be good.

Heard this VCU war song at Atlantis conference last year....

every VCU fan in attendance was singing it.... I don't see that happening with our new but outdated song

The new fight song will debut at the first home game (just got confirmation). I think it's great that the University is working on "re-branding" our fight song, and from the 10 second clip I saw, it's definitely more of college "fight song than the one we had previously. Many on here complain about the students and administration being apathetic, but alumni & fans can be just as bad. Some people will always find a reason to dislike change, instead of embracing it. Below is Seton Hall & their fight song after winning the Big East, I've always thought they have the best one out of the Big East schools.

Was at the South Carolina elite eight game. Not sure what their fight song was but hearing a bunch of guys yelling Go Cocks was a little strange.

Found the Instagram clip on Youtube -

Ugh. Thanks for posting. This reminds me of a cica 1980’s aerobics video song. At some point I expect Olivia Newton John to come strolling in.

Seton Hall and Villanova have very good fight songs. Based on St. John's past performance with nicknames, mascots, and logos; the fight song journey may not end well.
