St. John's & ESPN SportsNation Poll

Lol @Jack...you would be surprised how common it is for people to go to college there. I'd say 50% of my graduating class ended up there. And MCNPA, there is also a Brooklyn campus...it's really known more for education majors, but I'd say when I tell people I go to St. John's, at least 75% of the time people say "Wait...St. Joe's?".

Sounds like its more because of the people you talk to than it is our basketball team's national image lol.

The St. Joe's confusion is probably more of a LI thing, because so many people go to St. Joe's in Patchogue. I guess being about 45 miles from the Queens campus and like 5 miles from the St. Joe's campus will do that.

I live in Northport LI, and I've never even heard of St. Joe's in Patchogue..

St. Joseph's College use to be the campus belonging to the nuns of Seton Hall, hence Seton Hall High School. Around 1960 Jack Kaiser called and asked if I was interested in teaching and coaching varsity basketball at Seton Hall in Patchogue, L.I. If I wanted the job he and Louie would recommend me; had no idea where Patchogue was. Unfortunately, I turned it down. I say this because someone named Frank Layden eventually became a very, very successful coach at Seton Hall H.S. For those not familiar with the name he went on to coach the Utah Jazz. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I really don't get the impression that non-sports fans out here in California would know of St. John's University, but that's certainly not the basketball team's fault.

The good thing it that this is a nation of sports fans.

Frank Layden! The man who headed up the bogus search committee after Lou retired and everyone knew the fix was in and Mahoney would be both recommended and hired? SLOWLY I TURN. STEP BY STEP. iNCH BY iNCH..... :fight: :fight: :fight:

Hey Jack that is quite a story. IF you were to follow the same steps as Layden that would be quite the accomplishment.
