St. John's Basketball Memorabilia

I wonder if someone has anything older :
Programs from the 1943 and 1944 red cross games ,whereby the NCAA champion played the NIT champion.
I also have a letter dated November 28, 1990 from Lou C. when we changed our mascot which was a reply to our 10 year old daughter's letter.

Here is part of it:
Thank you very much for your wonderful letter and great, great art work! It is much appreciated. So many fans would like that little Indian to return but it's in the hands of the powers that be and they say NIX! If you don't know what NIX means (its a word from my generation) just ask your parents - or - grandparents!

Thanks again, work hard on those books and God Bless!

Signed Coach Carnesecca (in red)

In my bathroom, I have the full-page photo of Sonny Dove battling for a rebound against Cincinnati in the classic '64-'65 Holiday Festival semifinals. Obviously, I'm not married.

I have a piece of the floor SJU played their only final four appearance on, signed by Louie. I don't keep it in the bathroom though, because I'm married and my wife is still pretty hot.

St. John's also played in the Final Four in 1952.

Thank you for fact checking my joke. Now that we have that cleared up can we clarify whether a priest a rabbi and a minister ever actually walked into a bar?

I also have a signed letter from Louie.
Dear Jack & Helen,
Many thanks for your kind thoughts and sentiments. I appreciate them very much. It was a great night and as you know - you better have great players.
It just seems like yesterday when I was at St.Ann's and you at St.Agnes. The Marist Brothers gave us a good foundation.
I hope you are enjoying your living in Nevada - I know the bread and pasta is not as good as here. It's in the water.
Jack, again, many thanks for remembering me.
Regards and a big hug to Helen.
Lou

BTW, I was not attending high school at the same time Louie was. Actually while I played varsity basketball we had Louie and Lou Tambino ref a couple of our games. And I played in a playoff at Madison Garden against Louie's loaded St. Ann's team. Even so I believe we lost only by 11 points. Great memories!

I have boxes of (mostly) away game programs dating from 1967 or so, plus many from when we actually used to publish our own for home games. I actually scanned a couple of covers for use in the 100th anniversary book but they never made it in. I did get thanked in the front though :) I also have stubs from all the away games I've been to, also starting around 1967 or so. At the old Villanova field house. And a framed Daily News back page from 1975 about the NIT after Mel Utley hit fouls shots to win. Reason for that-I was in a picture in all my college drunkenness jumping out of my first row seat behind the basket at the end of the game. B) Also, various pieces of attire too numerous to mention.

Forgot to add, stubs from every home game and every Big East tournament. I got around a lot when I was younger. :)

My Redmen Memorbilia:
A signed Sports Illustrated cover, from Nov. 28, 1994 titled, Felipe Lopez - The New Guard - more then a freshman phenom.
A Rawlings St. John's baseball shirt - a replica of the N.Y. Mets 1986 home uniform.
A framed signed picture of the St.John's players stretching at halfcourt in preparation for the South Regional semi finals at Thompson - Bolling Arena (University of Tennesee). Even got Mr. Personality, Jarvis, at halfcourt. The front page picture was called, " Shootout in the South."
A picture with Bootsy Thornton in Tennessee.
A St.John's team baseball hat from friend and coach, Joe Russo.
Every item sold or given away at the Lou Carnesecca Dedication night, including a DVD of the ceremony.
25 pins of the first world champion NBA Olympic Dream Team at Barcelona, Spain. I purchased these prior to a St. John's basketball game from the fencing team that just returned from the Olympics. Supposedly, it was illegal to purchase these pins in Spain.

Don't you just love the key they had in those days!

Thanks for sharing Redken! Amazing how the game has evolved and how super talented our current players are compared to those guys taking two handed set shots, most of which did not go in the basket. :)
Your post got me thinking about old 16mm film my father had in his basement. We didn't know what was on them so I took them to a Costco to covert them. It turns out it was 1950's era physical activity with the parties wearing masks. It was great to see home movies from another generation. ;) :woohoo:

Think the one on the right might be my ex-mother-in-law.

Can still hear Marty Glickman describing a shot as "from the top of the key." (A phrase he passed on to Marv Albert.)

My hat (pic to the left), circa 1988? Made many trips up & down Union Tpke.

Also, a signed photo of Louie in a very cool sweater featuring a guy with a shotgun and some hunting dogs... Only Louie could pull that off!
