So I was fortunate enough to see a private screening of Coming to America part 2, and was happy to see heavy references to St. John''s in the movie which made me realize that this program is not dead and has amazing potential to rise again and that the people on this board may not be the only fans left.

I remember in the first one, they went to a SJU / Georgetown game at a packed MSG.

Actually it was the 1987 Holiday Festival against Marist.

Rik Smits in his MSG debut, I believe.
The Dunking Dutchmen and Marist previously played a couple of MSG undercards during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Don't want to spoil it for anyone but all I will say is that you will not be disappointed!!

Really loved this movie, put us in a great mood to start the weekend. The original came out the year we were married and will always hold a warm spot in our heart!  Would be great if I could get Sexual Chocolate to play at my daughters wedding lol (well maybe not)!

I don't see them in the clip posted, but I'm fairly certain that the (full) scene from the movie included a Michael Porter dunk, with a Boo Harvey assist. The San Jacinto connection!!

Only negative was the ticket scalper having trouble getting rid of tickets for the St. John's vs Middle Tennessee St. Game. /media/kunena/emoticons/sad.png/media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Curious why SJU couldnt/wouldnt let the real mascot appear in the movie.

I thought the same thing.  With new ncaa rules a game clip could have made the players a few bucks. No?

Back when the origional was filmed at MSG, both teams knew ahead of time and everybody associated with the team travel party were asked to sign a release from the producers that their likeness could be used without compensation.

Aj, kind of ridiculous.    Recall that the odd couple movie filmed a scene at shea stadium.  Roberto Clemente was to be paid a  hundred bucks to ground into a triple play.   When clemente heard what matthau and lemon were getting paid he asked for more money  They used mazeroski for the scene.

Lots of different versions of that story
