I have a question for the board. These games that the office of alumni relations offer. are they worth it? for $70 you can go to a pregame reception at Stouts and a gameday ticket. where are the seats usually located and what do they give you at the reception?

I try to go 1 or 2 receptions a year.

This year I went to the receptions at the Barclay’s Center for the St. Francis game and at MSG for the G’Town game.
At the Barclay’s Center the seats were in the upper section in the corner and for the MSG game, I chose the buy your own tickets option.

The Barclays Center reception was held in the Ralph Lauren Room and the MSG reception was in the Delta 360 Club. These are places that I would not normally have access to. That was part of the allure for me. The food (sandwiches-desserts) and drink (alcohol included) was unlimited and good both times.

Coach Keady addressed the gathering on both occasions and they usually have raffles and other luminaries present. I had a good time and enjoyed the food and Redmen Hospitality but it is way overpriced.

I’ve never been to a reception at Stout’s but I’m sure the atmosphere is much the same but down the street from MSG.

I go to Stout pregame but not part of the official reception. Just get a cheap ticket and spend the difference on beer.

Anyone here going to stouts tomorrow? Joe3, if you show up, I'll buy you a beer.

The communist manifesto may have driven the kid off and I predict he will be a mod on this board thirty years from now commenting on our games against Seton Hall at the now ancient Walsh Gym and playing our game of the year against Georgetown at the renamed Lavin Arena (formerly Carnesecca) in the 8 team Big East.

You know, the thing I realized most when reading the back and forth on the "manifesto" is that he's just a kid. Yea, he says silly things, and once went to great lengths to say he doesn't care if he offends someone or not. But there he was, offended, and hurt, and vowing never to return. But as I read his replies, I realized he's just a kid, and he was legitimately hurt by being singled out for personal criticism.

So, yea, Joe3, if you are at the game, and come to Stouts, I'll buy you a beer. It's mostly just basketball here, and although we sometimes go off the page to discuss other things, we ARE St. John's and we aren't here to offend, but to exchange views and make a few friends along the way.

Nicely put.
