St. John's AD Target Takes Nuggets Job

I assume we target a very good mid-major's AD, or assistant AD at a big school who is secretly a non-football fan.

I'm nominating Marrilac

Might be worth targeting the commissioner of a small conference who has a great relationship with the NCAA.

isn't that what monasch was ? :)

Assistant AD from another school who has the right experience, would be the correct hire.
But I imagine they hire someone with connections to Mullin, or who is a fundraiser first and foremost.

Gman, I think the former Michigan ad who had been ceo at dominoes was also a UM trustee and a former football player under Bo. A candidate like that has a number of things going for them.

Sorry to hear we lost the guy we wanted, but nice to see the News thinks enough of us to run the article.

He's not really the guy SJU wanted. Some higher-ups were against it and they weren't really pursuing him. He mostly floated his own name out there (which is why you saw the first report of it come from NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski). Got a little push from Mullin but overall school didn't want him.

I'm OK with this. He and Mullin were close, which I'm not thrilled about. I'd like to see a more of an arm's-length difference between the coach and his boss.

TRab, So who's the guy St. John's is gunning for?

There are plenty of places where the coach of the football or basketball program is more powerful than the AD.

whoever it will be he needs to be sociable. I think the reason why some didn't like Monasch is he never really smiled and he wasn't a gregarious type of person. When you look at the success of the other programs it's hard to argue that he did a bad job. He didn't hire Norm so we can't blame him for that and pretty much every single poster except for lawmanfan was big time in favor of hiring Lavin including me and I'd do it again if we turned back the clock when you consider it was almost Hewitt

He got us into the new big east so I think he did a good job there

I don't know who the prefect hire would be. The person needs to be real friendly and great at fundraising etc.

You really think SJU AD's have had the power to make hoop head coach hires in like just about forever?

I understand and I am a huge Mullin fan, but I just worry about the conflict of interest it presents down the road. Look at Seton Hall, they are living that conflict right now. I fully expect Mullin to be a far superior coach than Willard, but he has yet to coach a game. He's not Coach K....yet.
