Loyal kid that wanted to rep his city. Best of luck at next level.
Granted it was a Duke game but we were 0-11 in conference play so it fails to even make my top 20.

Ron Rowan
Walter Berry jumper in regulation to force overtime against Cuse at Garden in ‘85
Marco Baldi against Wichita St. in 1st round NCAA tournament
And about 5 Boo Harvey game winners are way higher in my mind to name a few
I was at that Cuse game in 85’ and still say it was amongst the most exciting games, if not the most exciting, that I’ve ever attended. I recorded it on VCR and still pull it out and watch it from time to time. May I also add, I was at the Hardy/Pitt game and that’s on my top 5 list as well. Also there were quite a few Hatten games that I would consider finalists

You guys sure Berry's basket didn't come against 'Cuse at the Garden in 1986, not '85? I was there, and unless he did the same thing two years in a row, I gotta go with the Berry/Jackson team of '86.

It was 1985, Berry's first year at SJU.
In 1986 we handled Syracuse @ MSG by 7 in the regular season and of course Rowan hit the game winner against the Cuse in the championship game in regulation.

100 % it was 85’ game at MSG. Mullin, Wennington and Moses were in that game. They were not in the 86’ game. When I get a chance I’ll post a few clips of it.

Clearly remember sophomore Mark Jackson throwing his fist in the air after hitting free throw in OT sealing the game.

The Hatten walk off free throw game at The Garden against Duke.

Just watched end of regulation. Tried to post the last minute, but file to big. Will try and upload to YouTube and post. Maybe over weekend

Because it was just discussed on another thread, here’s a link to the last 9 seconds of regulation. I will try and figure out how to upload the entire 2nd half and OT on to YouTube, and then post. This is a great reminder of how things used to be at MSG back in the day.

Maybe the most dramatic shot in SJU history was Tony Jackson's shot at the buzzer in the 1959 final regular season game at MSG vs NYU . Both teams had already earned bids to the NIT, which SJU won and NYU reached the semis and the game was strictly for NYC bragging rights. The score was tied and SJU brought the ball up in the final seconds with Jackson making a jump shot at the buzzer.
Years later I spoke to Cal Ramsey , a Knick announcer at the time who was on the court for that game and asked him if he remembered the game. He said he remembered it like it was yesterday and estimated the distance of the shot at thirty feet. He said he was yelling at his NYU teammates to pick up Jackson even at that distance because he had played with and against Tony for years in the school yards and knew he had great range on his jump shot.
It seemed the buzzer went off when the ball left Jackson's hand and a big crowd at MSG looked on for a couple of seconds before the ball dropped thru the net. It is too bad there is no film at that game available.

This was the season I became a Johnnies fan. I recall missing this game. Al Alberts on the call, too.

And Jack Rowen, old Columbia coach. He was actually a very good color man

Last 4 seconds of OT. Sorry bout' the poor audio and video quality. Can't figure out how to convert format of vid to something that can be uploaded to YouTube. When I do, I'll post entire 2nd half and OT.

Jackson with the almost premature celebration. Our line up at the end was 7', 6'8, 6'8, 6'7 and 6'3 and this was over 30 years ago.

Monte, thanks for posting those videos. I could've sworn -- as I mistakenly did in an earlier post elsewhere -- that this game was during the 1985-86 season, even though I was there. I guess it's because Berry, with his incredible basket, and Jackson. with his clutch FTs and premature celebration (as bamafan pointed out) -- are the players who stand out in my memory of that game (as they often did in '85-'86), tricking me into thinking Mullin et al. had already moved on.

Pearl was huge in that game for Cuse. He wasn't even supposed to play. Had an ankle injury. With under a minute in OT he hit that spin jumper in the lane, got fouled and hit the FT to tie the score. I hated Cuse, but I love Pearl.

The only Orangeman I was ever a fan of. The man was just flat-out special. Mark Jackson turned out to be a great player for us -- and for his NBA teams -- but I always believed that with Pearl on our team, we would've won it all in 1985. For one thing, freshman or not, I don't think Louie would have dared to start Mike Moses over him. Was deeply saddened when he passed away.

My sentiments about Pearl exactly. Here’s one more clip with under 2 minutes to go in OT. It shows how truly great both Pearl and Chris were. I still get goose bumps at Pearl hitting the shot and getting fouled, and Al Albert’s call

Hey Monte thanks a lot for wetting my appetite to enjoy some exciting big time St. John's basketball with no prospect of it on the horizon. Yeah thanks a real lot! ;) :) In the mean time I'd like to see you back on one of my favorite shows Billions.
