Agree completely, I think the really great thing is that the players who have already “proven themselves“ are very much practicing like they haven’t; mature leadership from players has not always been the case and IMO and rather obvious is that is essential to building a successful team and the continuity and culture needed to build a program. No surprise here, but it seems apparent Pitino not only recruited talent, but as he said he would, he recruited culture builders. One last point, again no great inside information revelation, but Pitino’s re-recruitment of Soriano was major. Not looking to knock the prior coach/staff at this point, and while I'm sure that they had the same intent of "PT being earned, not given", they simply didn't have the same kind of talent, balance and depth to enforce that idea. Thankfully Rick does. With the exception of the few players who have already proven themselves and are the cornerstones of the team, PT is up for grabs.
For the young folks that want to know how the Garden felt packed with mostly sju fans, get your asses there this year, because those days are returning. This is the year that Joel Soriano and his band of Indians,
triple our attendance population at THE GARDEN..
I live in Southern Florida and I'm waiting for plenty of
SJU T-Shirts suddenly appear at the pool.
I go back a ways, and St. John's pre-Big East could pack the old Garden, then the new Garden and in the formative years of the Big East when Uconn was nothing, we took over the Garden, except only when Syracuse came in they had a fair share of fans. I always said it was the Long Island/lacrosse connection between Syracuse and NY suburbs, but NYC diehards were all Johnny fans. For the young folks that want to know how the Garden felt packed with mostly sju fans, get your asses there this year, because those days are returning.
It's PITINO time BABY!!!!!!!!
Totally agree BR! I don't know that I will be able to make the Charleston Tourney but I definitely intend to make the trip north for a game or two at MSG this year. Got up for one of the Knick playoff wins against the Cavs in April and there is nothing like MSG when it is rocking for your team!I go back a ways, and St. John's pre-Big East could pack the old Garden, then the new Garden and in the formative years of the Big East when Uconn was nothing, we took over the Garden, except only when Syracuse came in they had a fair share of fans. I, for one, cannot wait for when RP has us selling out (or almost selling out) the Garden with the large % of Johnny fans in the seats.
