St. Francis

Does anyone else think it would be beneficial to get Jamal White in the game for a few meaningful minutes in a game like St. Francis? I just can't but thinking at some point during the season he may be needed for a few minutes at the end of the half or something in the case of foul trouble. Even with Amir back, an 8 man rotation in the BE could still easily wind up in foul trouble at some point. Even if he only plays 2 minutes per game, it could be needed at some point.

I still think we'll probably add Cummings who will move to the 9th man ahead of White.

White would not make the SFC roster. He is a practice player. Cummings is anybody's guess.
As for GG, he is playing tight but we quickly forget, while we watch the other guys shoot under 50% from the foul line that this guy had hit something like 17 in a row and when on defense, our guys have not leaned to double up to help down low so he is on his own.
I am still concerned that Nurideen has not shown us a mid-range jump shot and is shooting 0% from three........wink!
Stith was Stith in this game and will see even less minutes if Amir comes on board.
SFC is winless but plays hard as evidenced by taking Seton Hall to OT.
Norvel's visit is perplexing!

That'd work just as well ....

Amir is the real key though. We're a pretty decent team right now. We have been able to manage fouls and have the stamina to run the whole game thus far. That said, adding that one more talented wing player will go a long, long way to augmenting our lineup. Gift is struggling, and it is clear that while we will use him, we are going with a smaller guards and wings lineup for the lions share of the minutes out of necessity. I'm not sure what white can really do for us. Amir is the guy we need here. I'm hoping Cummings is an able body and able to give us some minutes at PF. Hoping for a pleasant surprise there. Even Boeheim has said he doesn't go deeper than 9 guys ever except this season. We'll be able to function with an 8-9 man rotation barring injuries.

Disagree about the priority. We need a big, desperately.

Not saying we don't need one. We aren't getting one this season. We will run without a "big" much of the time this season. Gift is a big man but not ready for prime time just yet. We aren't really "small" like we were in the past. We will have a few wing forwards in the 6'6"-6'8" range with Harkless, pointer, Garrett. We were smaller when we used to run Anthony glover as our 6'4" center and even Ty Grant was no taller than 6'7". Our guards are much bigger than we have traditionally had and are all in the 6'2-6'4" range. We have to make due with what we have for now. Obviously offseason priorities are adding some size up front.

I don't know what to expect from Cummings either but from what I gather, he is looked at as better than the average walk on and had D1 scholarship offers. I'm not expecting much, but I hope the staff knows something we don't and can help even just a little bit.

What is pretty decent.Right now we look around 11th or 12th in the BE so would not call us decent rather would say we can be competitive at times To go beyond we need a presence in the middle and getting our foul shooting to 70% And for greene and harrison to be more consistent from the outside. Keep Harness down in the blocks more let him rebound and take it to the rim and step out for 12-15 ft jump shots Lindsey should continue to play to his srength but must get his FS to 70% WE can win even if he does hit 3s Staying out of the chasing zone is great Use it when staff deems it necessary Like the way we have been defending the 3s but lets face it ST Fran is not Duke or BE caliber However , we are doing better and making procress It is definitely a good sign

Right now we are better than 11th or 12th in the big east. Lots of teams in the big east are steuggling right now with low majors. We havent been one of them. I don't know who you've been watching thus far. Our only losses are to top 20 teams. Right now we're firmly behind Cuse, Uconn, Louisville and maybe a few others, but that's it. Even pitt has looked awful outside of Ashton Gibbs. We were two free throws and a play or two away from wins against top 20 teams and being undefeated right now.

I agree our ft shooting must improve, but we're at .634 right now, not 40%. It will certainly improve. I see a lot of big east schools being worse than us this season from the teams I've seen play.

Pointer is already on the fast track to being Lavar Postell.

+1

Pointer also much more interested in defense and taller than Postell. Sir'Dom is probably my favorite player along with Harrison right now because they both bring it with 100% intensity. They will have a fantastic 4 years here.

Loved Lavar, but don't really get the comparison. Thought crgreen put it best when he said Pointer reminded him of former LA Laker Michael Cooper -- long and lean, a defensive stopper, and someone who scored his points by creating turnovers and running the floor better than anyone else.

Cooper could also shoot. I don't know if I would consider Pointer to be a good shooter at this point. Nevertheless, I really love what he brings to the table. I can eventually see he and Garrett being quite bothersome to the opposition.

The Lavar comparison is that he an athletic guy who is surrounded by players who get a lot more attention their way but by the time he's a senior you will see the trend of his career has been upward all four seasons.

Lavar went from 5.6 to 9.9 to 13.1 to 14.3 points, his shot attempts and free throws increased every year. He was a 66 percent FT shooter as a freshman, graduated with 81 percent as a senior.

And as some have already said about Pointer, he is the ultimate glue guy already and Postell had that role on the Elite Eight team.

 Mr. Dinkins,
I too look forward to seeing Pointer and Garrett locking down opposing players together. Could be one of the best defensive duos around.
