First Four's St. Francis moving to D-III in 2026

Citing changes in the national landscape, and a week after a First Four loss in the NCAA tournament, Saint Francis (PA) announced a move to Division III in 2026.

Dropping down is better than cutting out several sports entirely, at least the athletes can stay, finish their education and continue playing.

It's working out for NYU among others. Division 1 will remain professional. Mid majors that can't find big time donors should consider dropping down a division or two where their sports can be enjoyed the way it was.

Like D2 Sonoma State out by me. Don't even think there were rumbles beforehand. Just announced once day out of the blue a few months ago that they were cutting all sports.

St Francis NY recently went from D-1 to no sports. Hartford solid back in the day with Vin Baker dropped down to D-3 as well.
