Sonoma State Game

There definitely will be a "Should we have hired Danny Hurley?" thread if they do win big.

Whats everyone want to see most out of this next game? Aside from a win of course.

I want to see us beat the press. Because during the few times we actually got to play half court offense for more than 10 seconds, I thought our sets actually looked pretty good. Yea we turned it over a million times and shot like crap but I thought the team had good action in the half court.

A Christian Jones dunk

Free LoVett.

Most irrational poster love for randem player in SJU board history:
1. Carmine from JJ-Phil Greene
2. Bobre-Sean Evans
3. Mase-Jones

Bobre's Sean Evans love is number one by a country mile.

You clearly have not visited JJ enough these last 4 years. Carmine is the Michael Jordan of this category where as Bobre is more of a Scottie Pippen

Nah while Carmine is hardcore PG4 fan Bobre was borderline stalking Sean. It was almost as bad as his Dexter Gray fetish

Pretty sure Greene is chained up in Carmine's basement

I think it's fair to say the the guy with the pet names loses.

It's great to see them all on the court again. I'd like to see a) Durand Johnson play like we know he is capable. b) Mussini and Sima play a two man game in the half court. c) Amar, Felix and CJ show they can contribute d) if we get down for Mull's and Mitch to suit up and start draining threes.

I agree that Jones looks better this year. However, I think we should wait for the Vanderbilt game before we make final determinations.

I've never been sold on him and probably still remain a bit skeptical, but not sure that game is fair for a final determination if we have to throw the kid up against a future NBA center.

I didn't make the comment because Vanderbilt has an NBA center. The completion that Jones has faced is St. John's and St. Thomas. Hardly competition to measure his improvement. I agree he looked better but wait for the better teams to exploit his weaknesses.

If we lose to Sonoma I'm probably going to have to drink 2 bottles of wine from Sonoma to dull the pain

And then see if that breaks his newfound spirit.

Yes, that would be a big concern. I'm thinking if after 10 games he's averaging 6 (or more) RPG he's for real. Not a star, but more real than he's been at any time in this uniform. Rebounding has never been his thing at any level, so if he suddenly becomes one, someone deserves a ton of credit for getting his aggressiveness to finally match his body.

Hear, hear. A bit of a case of PE going on.

Once you get beyond basic basketball skills, a majority of performance is based upon what's above the shoulders. A huge part of what is above the shoulders is confidence in where you sit in the pecking order.

Sometimes, on pretty bad teams, a player or two emerges to score a lot of points: Freddie "Mad Dog" Carter on a previous iteration of the Sixers who went something like 9-73. Flynn Robinson and Jon McGocklin on the pre-Alcindor Bucks. There are lots of examples.

This years team is a great opportunity for someone like CJ or Amar not to have to look over the shoulder and worry about getting yanked at the first mistake, and simple play with the confidence that they did at the level they did before SJU. I wouldn't expect All-Big-East caliber play, but it's not crazy to think one of them (or others) could emerge to have a decent season.

By now I thought we would have heard re, eligibility. Sadly, no news , no Lovett. Although, no news is better than news declaring him ineligible.
