SJU vs Pitt Game Thread

Not a loser, realistic. I'd rather go tom the NIT, get more games under our belt in tournament conditions, and hoe that next year is the breakthrough season. Then those NIT games could be a boon for us in next year's NCAA.

i say what i believe anyone who thinks this team is winning the last three games needs a shrink. this team is going to nit ill put my money down for anyone willing to take that bet . im sure no one will step up and take it

No one will step up and aknowledge you, let alone take you up on a bet. Has your intense basketball masterbation reached a climax for you yet? Jesus, Mary, and all that is holy what is the point to pound your chest after we lose. I am teetering on banning myself because we have too many fans who would rather us lose and say "I told you so" than have this team go ona liftle run and make the NCAA's and be proven wrong.

Congrats, you are right.
wrong you just did. also its not about being right homer its about seeing the truth this team is not good enough.

You have a reading problem don't you. Here, I'll go all caps so you don't miss it: I HAVEN'T THOUGHT THIS TEAM WAS A TOURNEY TEAM FROM DAY 1. READ MY POSTS. THAT MAKES ME A HOMER? REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS?? I started a thread almost 2 MONTHS ago about how I'd happy with an NIT berth.

There are other reasons why we have trouble (ie, not enough basketball players), but a good, smart PG can hide some defenciencies. Pitt usually plays smart, and they are also usually veteran-laden.

I don't think the PG is our biggest need. I think a big bulky rebounding inside presence is.

Its not our biggest need once Branch comes back, but right now it is IMO.[/quote]

We need Gift, and we need another big-bodied rebounder. But...if we can secure Jordan, then we have a back court of Branch, Jordan, Greene and Harrison...that's pretty tough.

The funny thing about this post, Kranmars, and I agree with you 100 percent, btw, is how many of these people actually thought we were a Top 68 team before the season started? After we lost to SF? After we lost to UNC-Ashville? After we lost to Rutgers at MSG? These same people screaming about how crappy we are and how "embarrassing" the NIT is are the people who seem to have these lofty unrealistic expectation themselves.

I'm a Mets, Jets, Islanders, SJU and Tottenham fan. For those of you crying about, "poor me, my teams suck..." Grow up. Go root for Syracuse or Duke. I didn't get the chance to watch the game, I had to follow it on my phone while out with my family, so I stupidly decided to go through the game thread to get some inkling of an idea of how the game "really" went. Some of you would be hilarious, if you weren't so sad.

I think its obvious that most of those posting the "this team sucks! etc comments have no connection to the school and most certainly are not fans of the team. Not to mention the fact that most of them have no knowledge of basketball as evidenced but the lack of substance in their posts. I will occasionally engage one of them out of shear boredom and for entertainment purposes. They eventually go away, they always do.

Are you here to try to prove you have the biggest johnson by saying the same thing over and over (about the team not being good)? That is how your posts are coming off. You're proving one thing.... You're proving you are the biggest johnson. no i here to post whatever i want as long as its not insulting. nit deal with it dinkins we will make it the following year. stop whining

Where did kransmars hint at anything about being a homer? Comprehend what you're reading. You're not saying anything other than your over-the-top/overly-emotion opinion. Seriously, what are you trying to prove here?

I was being sarcastic about the "loser" part.

We got crushed. I think the reaction is 100% warranted on here and this is why: SJ is like someone who got lost in a huge desert and is slowly dying. You try to find water anywhere...walking for days and days STARVING of thirst. You finally spot what appears to be a body of water, but it turns out to be a mirage. After a decade of pathetic failure (and 2011 really resulted in nothing so don't bring that up) we finally get a new coach, finally start recruiting with the other top 25 teams, finally get the buzz back that we can seriously compete again, knock off a few good ranked teams, dominate USF, then come in and lay an absolute egg against Pitt at HOME. I thought the team had grown too much to get their butts wiped by a #20 team at home. That is a borderline ranked team and it just goes to show you how far away we really are. By the way I never said the team deserved a winner, I said us FANS deserve much better than this. Can anyone handle NY expectations anymore? I mean seriously. It makes me wonder how my favorite teams used to succeed. Today we played like the typical pushover SJ team of the past decade. I had a terrible feeling about this game before and now I know why. We are not even close to seriously competing. I want to be Nova, I want to be Pitt, I want to be G'Town, I want to be Memphis. Is that really so much to ask with all our resources and huge basketball culture here?

Just to make the tourney feels like I have better odds winning the lotto, and to be ranked or go deep into the tourney seems as likely as Tupac coming back to life. I know many of you don't like stone cold realists. You don't like being awoken from your Final Four dreams with a cold splash of humble reality that was today's game. I do not root against this team. I want this team to succeed probably more than anyone on this board. But it's games like this that really scream "Same old Johnnies". One litmus test I use to try and figure out whether we are a good team or not is trying to picture myself as the opponent's fan then asking myself "Am I scared of SJ?" my answer would be "no". If I was a Pitt/G'Town/Cuse/L'Ville/Marquette fan I wouldn't even drop a bead of sweat seeing SJ on the other side of the scoreboard. We are like cupcakes to them. You guys talk about such lofty goals for this team...we can't even make the tourney. Let's focus on that first. If we don't make it next year, it will really set us back even more.

I am kinda getting the feeling that at this stage of his career Harrison is a little like the NY Yankees hitting. Feasts on poor teams and is terrible against anyone that is decent. But, I would not want to not have him. I just think it is obvious he needs to get better and is in no way ready for the next level.

The team has not played well without Branch, so I think he's a key guy. If he can come back, then maybe we can make an NIT run to make it a respectable year. He certainly is key next year. I think he is a true PG and that he is someone who can run the team while also being the other scoring option we need.

Basically a horrid performance after the latter part of the first half, especially with everything to play for at home.[/quote

Harrison is a sophomore. By the time he leaves as a senior, he will have won for this program many more than he has lost. Let's take a step back please.

Joe...I'm not quoting that gigantic block of "woe is me" stuff, you wouldn't know what the "same ol' Johnnies" were if they came about a bit you in the ass.
And enough of this homer crap. No one in this thread is a homer. I'm sick of the phrase. Take your meds and get off the ledge. God forbid, you have a bill or two to pay, a diaper to change or a kid you have to have "a talk with." Take a breath, life gets a lot harder.

When I was your age, I'd be at the damn game, not bitching about on my computer.

so i guess you agree with me look up my old thread i said the same.

Only I didn't post in my thread...."OMGZZZ!!!! WE SUCK!!!" "WE'RE AN EMBARRASSMENT!!!111!!!"

I wished he'll also learn how to use the quote button, as well, guiness.

This was the preivous post to me (via miguel): "no i here to post whatever i want as long as its not insulting. nit deal with it dinkins we will make it the following year. stop whining."

What's with the "deal with it" and "post whatever I want" crap you continue to spew? Trying to antagonize? It's easy to be a jerk over the internet.

wow someone who gets it. im not a hater i love st johns i just not sipping the kool-aid most of you are. this team probably will lose in first round of nit.

I look at this team and my frustration is not that we are probably not going to the dance or our record. I look at a team that beats itself, or maybe said better, doesn't give itself the best chance to win. It starts with effort, physical and mental, and I just don't see a team willing to leave it all on the court, where guys are digging in on D EVERY possession, giving their all. Who dives for loose balls, who runs the court HARD every change of possession? Who cuts hard, who picks with conviction, who crashes the boards when a shot is taken? While, frankly, our record is a little better than I thought before the season began, I am frustrated because I see a team that could be so much better but isn't. I see a team that is not getting better as the season goes on but rather is stagnant in terms of development. They have enough talent to have the record they have, but that talent certainly not being maximized. Forget being young, we have ample enough experience to be good. Who improved from last year in the group of Harrison, Greene, Pointer, and Garrett? None of them from what I see. They are all basically the same players they were last year, making the same mistakes. Some of that certainly falls on the coaching staff, but maybe at the end of the day this group is uncoachable, not because of bad attitudes because I don't see that even in Harrison, but because the bad habits are so ingrained they can't be unlearned. It is just very frustrating to consistently see the same mistakes we saw from the beginning of last year with no end in sight.

Who's drinking the kool-aid around here? I know it's probably stupid to even bother asking, but I'm a little curious.

I feel so much better now that Joe3 and Miguel are BFFs after this loss. What is it? Is a SJU loss some steroid injection for you? Do you feel powerful? Crapping on these players does not transform you into John Wooden. Enjoy our losses. We probably have a couple of more. Heck by then, your climax will feel like you had sex with a room full of strippers.

Some of you on this board are honestly on sweet air when you post. It's as if you huff some before typing. Read this loud and clear: being disappointed, frustrated, and pissed off at your team's putrid performance does NOT mean rooting against them. It's the same thing parents do to their kids. They will yell, scream, sometimes even hit them (some still do that), but at the end of the day it's out of love because they have so much invested in them, not because they hate their kids. So I love SJ. I want this team to win a championship. But when they fail miserably I will not accept it just like you wouldn't accept your child failing in school when you know they are capable. Not because I hate them, because I love them. Our window for seriously competing is now down to 1 year and that is next year. Do you really feel confident with this group? I sure as hell don't. There's a reason we can't keep our own studs in NYC recruiting wise. We are a so-so team. They want to play for teams who know how to win for years now. We are still a has-been in college basketball and no young kids are going to dream of playing for SJ as long as we keep stinking up the place. Not many teams were this great at one time then had such a long stretch of futility. It's the Isles all over. Just cannot rekindle that old winning form.
